I was glumly poking at the rust on my truck, realizing that the weatherstripping is holding onto nothing in the corner now. Still contemplating just going crazy with the snips and grinder, cutting out all the rust (which would mean half the wheel well...) and trying to rebuild it with fiberglass or something. I've never worked with fiberglass.

Then the other idea came to mind of getting a newer, non-rusty truck that was hit and needs repaired, but has lower miles and otherwise solid. I saw a 2007 that had front end damage (but no blown bags) for relatively cheap. Could use parts off my TB to rebuild one like that. Maybe that would be a cheap way of getting a newer, lower miles, otherwise clean truck :undecided:

Depending on how bad your rust is I would almost suggest going the newer shell route.

Put it this way - if you sanded the rust I'd have holes in multiple spots!

You mean you'd still have a truck left after sanding? :raspberry:

At that point you are better off media blasting it and get rid of as much of it as you could. You would actually have to treat both sides to try to do much of anything worth while.
