Hello to all. Just purchased an 02 Tb LS 4.2 from auction site for crazy cheap! Was looking to replace my 2 other vehicles with 1 that is comfortable for 6'4" 260# old man with 4 wheel drive, decent fuel economy but still able to tow 5k+. The trailblazer fits the list pretty well? So, the reason I got it so cheap is it's banged up a bit, no battery, unknown mileage, and stated no power when jump pack attached. I assume it's no power to dash, dome lights, door open dinger, etc? The interior looks in pretty good shape, especially for a city of ST Louis MO vehicle. The truck is 400 miles away from me.
My hopes are that the jump pack was either too weak or not good enough contact to side post batt cables to power up the interior? There is another issue. The driver side door panel is off and armrest and switches are hanging. I wonder why it was removed? Maybe a windows swith or motor? Anyway, this is my gambling habit. Buy something needs work for cheap, fix it for cheap! Have decent ride worth more than I paid. Also, I don't have very much money living on SS. So, what you all think? Any suggestions are much appreciated. I will try to put up some pics

Can you provide a VIN? I also dabble in the Auctions a bit. Would like to see what you got!

2002 are odd years. Its the first year for the GMT360. 2002 also means it comes with things that no other year did. Memory serves, one of them is a oil level sensor.

I have the kissing cousin to your Trailblazer, a Envoy.

Parts seem to be plentiful for this platform still. But I wager in the next 5-10 years, Junkyards will likely stop having them. Great vehicles in my opinion.

Welcome, and Congrats!

My questions would be: are you a good "DIY'er" in terms of auto repair and troubleshooting and you know a bit about "modern vehicles" in terms of "computer / data controls"? IF so and the vehicle wasn't at the start of being "cannibalised" (ie. parts missing like PCM, etc), then as tollkeeper suggests, you are probably going to be "happy" with your "auction win".

This question / comment comes from your statement about "no lights thing"... the ones that you list are caused by having a battery BUT you also have to have a PCM / BCM module installed. Hopefully, they are there.

Well, thanks for your reply Budwich. I am nie upto 65 years old. Been wrenching on my own vehicles since the first one-1964 Ford falcon with 170 straight 6. I have always been un-rich and done most all my repairs. Been taking it easy and having wallyworld change my oil but will quit that as $ is very tight now retired. I have a cheap scan tool, an elm gadget ant torque lite on my phone for reading codes and clearing them. I bought a used Explorer and pulled the engine and did timming job. It ran for 1 month and chain fell off front cam so I just dunked it. Bought for 400$, parts about 1000$ sold forv400$. So I ate that one! Think it was my torque wrench was off? Hate those torque to yield bolts. I don't see anything canabolized on the truck. Driver door panel off and in back, and battery not there, but so far that's all I can see. Thanks

The battery is likely completely dead. I suggest that you bring a good working battery to replace it right away. If the old battery doesn`t take a charge at all, the truck would act weird without someplace for the power to go. It`s very sensitive to power and ground issues.

No power at all to dash, I would check the mega-fuse. It often blows when people try to use its posts to jump with.

Further, I would bring an ignition switch. The earlier years had issues with them so worth the try in case it`s the cause of the electrical issues.

So I did what I could to find info on it....

Last reported miles...

I have one site showing that it has 370xxx miles on it! But am unable to verify.

Appears to have been a government truck

You are correct it is city of St Lois Missouri truck. There is no battery in the truck, just both bare batt cables. That's why I thought/hoped that battery jump pack attached to just cables(no battery attached) would cause no power inside truck. Just bought a group 78 800CCA 3 year battery from wallyworld for 140$ I was gonna get 600cca but read somewhere where te TB need 700CCA min. Now I have to figure out how to charge it with my gator clip charger on the damaged side posts. Guess gotta go buy bolts 5o 5hread in. Anyone know what size they are?

Pics of the inside seats and steering wheel it looks almost new. 3ven 140k would show wer or ev3n tears, right? Don't know what website was used to run vin. Every one I try wants my money, even the ones advertised for absolutely free. I have to drive 6 hours 1 way to get this thing. Now I am having anxiety pains in my gut

So where do you recommend I go to purchase a new ignition switch? Any brand that is known to work best? Is there a relearn procedure for the TB after I install battery? I have read a lot of posts regarding no crank, no start, no power, etc. Check 125a mega fuse, all fuses inside engine and under left rear seat, wiring harness to ignition, etc. Won't have a lot of dx time but would be nice e to drive onto tow dolly. Thanks

For the majority of parts on these platforms it is strongly recommended to stick to AC branded parts, especially when they are electrical in nature. Many of the folks will use RockAuto.com and amazon to purchase the parts through. Often there are 5% off discounts at Rockauto in a thread on this site. One very nice thing on rockauto is most parts have photographs of the parts which can be very useful. For the ignition switch ONLY use the AC brand switch or you are asking for much problems. I had an '04 trailblazer with a 4.2l straight six and changed out (years ago now) the ignition switch and it isn't problem job at all. Like most things take your time and don't get in a hurry. There are youtube videos showing it being done and threads on this site with photos and instructions.

go to this link and find the latest discount code at RockAuto.
latest code I saw today is:
Code: 28348808698160033

Your code expires on December 6, 2024, 12:00 Midnight CT,

Unfortunately, because this platform has been out of production for over 15 years, most OEM/ACDelco parts are no longer available, including the ignition switch. Standard Motor Products seems to be the best available now.

I thank you for the info. I have read and watched multiple videos on changing ignition switch and for testing for power to switch thru harness.

I am leaving Smyrna TN Wednesday early morning. Doubt if part will be received before then? Have to go with local auto parts store for now. Might just wait until I get to hawk springs MO outside St Louis and see what happens when fully charged new EverStart Maxx 800CCA will do? Not driving it back 400 miles anyway. Just would be nice to drive on to dolly or trailer for loading. Thanks all for your assistance. I will update what I find. Diamond inthe rough or junk?

This will be a Long Road for You... With NO TURNS... However... You've come to the *Right Place* to be able to figure out how to sort it all out, eventually.

Update: theTB is home! Left this morning at 0130, Arrived in Hawk Point MO at 0720. Checked out the ride...a bit rough. Thru the batting and it cranked and all lights lit-up. Turned the key to on and headed a buzzing and a ratcheting sound from? Under the dash, maybe. I am hard of hearing. So the dash lights up like a fricking Christmas tree bur the all go off except service engine soon msg. Cranked good but didn't start. Checked for fault codes-none. Removed air filter box and shot some carb cleaner in intake and it started and died. Did it again, same result, so? Not getting fuel for some reason? What can cause it. Fuel pump? Wiring to fuel pump, cam/crank sensor? Fuel pump fuse, or relay? I checked all under hood fuses, seams they are all good-same voltage on both sides of fuse. Didn't check the under seat fuses cut I ran out of time. Had to pick up car hauler trailer from Uhaul at 0900. So, good news that dash has power, oh yah, 188k miles showing, and only thing I could find wrong with why the removed driver door interior panel is the driver window don't work but all the rest do, and door locks too. So switch or motor or wiring. Gotta search for how to diagnos no fuel problem. Help appreciated. It had a low tire, and quick check is 2 or 3 different sizes 245/70/16, 245/75/16, and 225 s9mething? Will that screw something up with sensors, 4x4, etc. Oh remembered abs light is on too. Thanks

Using *Ideas* that should translate well from the Medical World over to the Mechanical World... You will need to use a "Triage" Methodology with your "New Found Friend" and become much better organized while you are trying to figure out what to do First, Next and :Last...with your Patient. Here are a few ideas to help you with getting better organized from the outset:

(1) Communicate with the Membership using Paragraphs that qualify in meaningful terms as being no longer than about an Inch and a Half Deep. Re-Read everything you write by starting with what you want to say in your FREE Word Processor from Libre-Office. Check it for logic and clarity and spell-check it to a fair-thee-well. Then... Copy Paste the end products as they develop in here as Fresh, Discreet Postings.

(2) Get a a Decent Spiral Bound Notebook to jot down EVERYTHING you encounter and use that Booklet as your Process Bible to refer to as things develop. Write down everything...Every Part Number, Every Issue, Every Idea being considered and thereby ...keep a running record of this Project.

(3) Be specific about issues in such a way that your thoughts are less like moments of "Stream of Consciousness" and not mixed and mismatched for content and lumping every problem together as a running dialogue. This will reduce confusion and help others trying to help you to dial in directly on those problems... Sort of Like "How Do You EAT An Elephant?"... (One Bite at a Time).

(4) Take Digital Pictures of every area being worked on and every component being removed or repaired. For example... showing us what all of the major areas "Under The Hood" look like in Images might allow one of us to spot the fact that if your SUV sat for too long... Mice and Rats might have set up "Gnesting and Gnawing" parties under there and Chewed Up the Wire Harnesses and Connectors". Post those images specific to each area of focus whenever possible...right back here.

(5) Obtain the GM-GMC OEM FREE Service Manual specific to your SUV available here, courtesy @Mooseman 's Epic Thread via THIS Link and download and save it to use as a Regular Reference:

(6) Use your Google Search Engine to find the majority of On Topic Threads HERE at GMT Nation that have already been well-documented and thrashed out ..so that things that match your particular issues that have been solved already...do not require the re-invention of each "Wheel".

Example:

Using DuckDuckGo and typing in this expression:

gmtnation trailblazer cpas

Will yield THESE Links:

(7) Listen and Act upon specific advice and instructions in their suggested Orders of Operation ...especially where Engine and Transmission Diagnostics are concerned because the idea that "You Can't Get THERE from HERE..." means that certain things should be done in a certain order...especially where Trouble Codes or DTCs are concerned by using a Decent OBD2 Scan Tool for such Diagnostics. You will find plenty of assistance with what works best under certain conditions.

(8) The GMT360 Platform almost demands GM or ACDelco Parts for most Repairs. Using After-Market Parts in most repairs on these SUVs is just asking for more trouble.

(9) We know that having a project like this on-going is often frustrating and confusing...especially if you are receiving different approaches to the same problem. You can help yourself by slowing down and reading what has already been posted in prior successful events involving other Members and use those events to inform you about the most reliable sources of advice...coming from MANY different Members with plenty of ideas and experiences to lean upon.

(10) Give your "Readership" regular "One Over The World" updates on how things are progressing...or not. These kinds of jobs often come with "Fits and Starts" with interruptions that involve either waiting for New Parts to arrive...or the Money needed to afford them. We all know what this feels like...so...Stay In Touch...

Thanks for reply. Run on sentences, disorganized thought process, really! I guess you didn't think or understand my last post. I had just completed an all night all day trip. The return trip of 450 miles was done in the rain pulling an 8000 pound load. I am 65 years old and just spent 20 hours thinking on my new "patient". I wanted to share my thoughts and findings. Sorry

I would suggest that as you start tackling the issues, if you need to, you can start a new thread in the appropriate sections. Since this is an intro section, it's not appropriate for technical questions. For this reason, I am locking this thread.

There is also the FAQ's that have a lot of answers to common issues.
