I used to have a Rhino Rack roof rack on my Civic, and wanted to use the crossbars with my Envoy. With the weird angle of the factory bars I can't mount the kayak carrier I have. I planned on getting the rail-mount foot pack for my existing bars, but they would put the bars about 4" higher than the existing rails, and would look pretty goofy IMO.
So I decided to get a bit creative...
I cut 4" pieces of 1" square tubing, and a 4" piece of flat 1" steel bar and bolted it together to clamp onto the existing rail. The crossbars mount with the existing hardware to the square tube. I ordered a set of plastic caps to finish it off. I think it looks pretty good, and can carry much more weight than the OEM bars!
