Intermittent noise from sound system

I am experiencing an intermittent noise in my sound system. Occasionally, the system will suddenly have this irritating buzzing, appearing to come from the passenger side rear speaker. The pitch changes with the engine rpm leading me to believe the RF shielding may have something to do with it. The noise disappears when the radio is switched off, but will start again if the seatbelt or door dinger is activated. It stops when the door dinger stops. Sometimes the buzz is very loud and is hard to pinpoint. Any ideas?

I had this noise for the longest time. While working in the back area to replace my carpet I also removed the bose amp and took it apart to check the heat sinks. After reconnecting the harness it hasnt buzzed since. About 6 months now buzz free.

Welcome to the forum.
Do you know if you have the Bose system? (If so, there would be a UQA listed among the codes inside the glove box)
There have been various reported fixes. Bad wires under the center consloe (wiggling or banging on it is not recommended troubleshooting but has been done!), bad groung under the passenger seat ond rear seat, rear entertainment board, and now with CaptainXL it may have been the wires under the capet or a loose connection.
That's no help is it! Does it whine when you run that doors window up or down - not a clue or anything - just that mine did.

Did it just start out of the blue or after some work?

Also want to add that there was a bare ground wire running from the GPS/onstar which looked like it came from the antenna. This wire was covered by a wet spot in the jute padding. There could have been some electrical ground loop stuff going on.

Thank you! A kind soul directed me to this site. I do have the Bose system. I didn't realize it had all that to it...I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to sound systems...last one I installed just plugged in at the back and had speaker wires run to it. A buddy of mine thought it sounded like a loose ground somewhere since it was intermittent. I'll check and see if I can find something. I haven't checked if operating the windows causes it. I bought the Envoy in May and it has been happening occasionally since I got it.

Ok thanks...where exactly is the amp and the GPS/onstar for the system? I see there are two boxes under the rear seats...

Under the second row seats on the left side is a fuse/power block, and under the right side is the OnStar module. The Bose amp is in the rear compartment on the left side behind the panel in your vehicle. See roadie's pic here - http://gmtnation.com/f35/bose-amp-location-3554/

I had the same problem with my Bose system. Try turning the power on and off on the rear audio controls if the buzzing goes away the problem is more than likely a short in the control head. I replaced the rear control head in mine, put dielectric grease on the plug and have not had any issues since it was done. If you don't want to replace the control head try unplugging it and puting dieletric grease on the plug and see if that corrects it.
