I had my resonator deleted awhile ago and had someone weld on a Magnaflow 11226 muffler, it's a little loud for my tastes and just wanted to know if there's something else that you guys prefer. Thanks

I just ordered the part, hoping it sounds a little bit better than the one I currently have.

I dont know if we have a "what does your exhaust sounds like" thread or not but it sounds like a good thread to start if we dont
Btw i have the 4x9 magnaflow installed in mine and it had a horrible drone so i threw a thrush turbo where the resonator is supposed to be to temporarily quiet it down until i get a new setup, its jusssst starting to work itself in and sounds better and better
I'll post a vid of it tomorrow for you
But when i was undercoating it i realized the mechanic that welded my exhaust together used 2.5" piping from the magnaflow back and its probably the reason for a lot of my drone and is restricting some air flow so im gunna go 3" back asap

I have been debating on getting either the MagnaFlow or FlowMaster 50 series muffler. I thought about a 40 or 44 series, but most of the reviews I have read about them state an annoying drone at around 1800-2000rpm. Most of my driving is highway, so I am sure that drone would get annoying after 30min each way to work and home.

I had the Magnaflow installed (forget the model number?) but it was the called for part except it had to be extended a bit to fit my XL. Long story short. I added that and deleted the res at the same time and my ride sounded like an old B-52 bomber! Couldn't stand the drone.

I went back and put a new Walker muffler on and added a new resonator from them as well....sounds stock again.

Yeah the 11226 I had was loud and droned a lot... I plan to have my vehicle tuned after I've modified the exhaust, anyone have any opinions on shortening the exhaust pipe? The piping is kind bent before the muffler so I figured that knocking some off would remove some backflow. Also thought that having the muffler under the chassis would make it less annoying. The fart can noise coming from the rear of the vehicle when I'm driving to work can get really irritating. So I'm hoping it would help with that as well. :undecided:

Heres a vid i stitched together while driving around today, if you put in headphones it gives you a nice idea of what my exhaust sounds like with the thrush added where the resonator is suppossed to go.

:sadcry: unfortunately... I do not know of any because of my setup but magnaflow seemed somewhat quieter

I6's and the terms loud exhaust are an oxy moron :rotfl::raspberry:

I've heard a variety of exhausts on these pigs through my years, and while I've never sat in one to hear the drone, they all pretty much sound the same while outside the truck and listening to it pull away/WOT applications (just like the OP explained, a fart can type noise lol)... Magnaflow is the top dog when it comes to exhausts on these (I don't know which specific one is the best for your applications as they sound completely different on the SS platforms), but I've heard Gibson's, Thrush's, Flowmasters, etc... tough to say which is best and why...

hopefully the OP can find a good tone and git er dialed in

Before when i had just the magnaflow it was stupid loud, louder than harmless's SS
But i also had a crack in my manifold lol
It made not 1 but 3 of my hungover friends throw up because the drone was unbearable :raspberry: i didnt even want to drive it sometimes
But im going to be bringing it into one of the best american muscle exhaust shops in toronto tomorrow and replace the 2.5" pipe behind the magnaflow to 3" and probably into a glasspack instead of the thrush to clean the look up a bit

Or maybe 2.5" duals if its not too pricey

I just want minimal drone with a nice tone

an I6 louder then an SS :mad::mad::rotfl:.. im sending stef a PM now!!! :raspberry::crackup:

but that's the downfall with exhausts... its tough to get that puuuurtty tone/rumble without some kind of drone... hell, my $1200 Corsa Sport exhaust has drone in it at some RPM's... but i'll never get rid of it... she's stupid loud with that exhaust lol...

I was running 2 mufflers when i met stef at the meet, his exhaust was loud but not as loud as mine was hahah i got noise pollution warnings which was one of the reasons why i had to throw a second muffler on
But have you tried a J pipe? Heard it fixes a lot of peoples drone (gunna see if the shop i go to tomorrow can make me one that way i can run just a single muffler so its mean sounding and drone free

Firm believer in J pipes now!! - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums - Camaro5.com

I wanted to put one of those in but heard reviews of the spring weakening and the valve plate start to rattle, they were supposed to do a recall and replace the springs with tougher ones but who knows how long those will last too, only permanent and reliable drone fix i've heard of is the j pipe

Edit: Just did a little searching and supposedly these things are now OEM validated and they use them in new nissans, might be onto something here wooluf!

I will sell you mine if you dont like Ryda55555's muffler....forget the model but it was the called for part extended a bit. Also have 3 inch Mandrel bent pipe back to tail.....I was not man enough to rock this! The drone was crazy and the kids were not happy! barely used it a month...its been in the rafter of my garage for a while now.

I believe the Magnaflow Muffler I have is the one Pittdawg gives the specs for above.

It'll sound a lot better in about an hour lol

Getting a high flow cat installed because mine is history, supposedly its only letting out 3000 when its supposed to let out 7000 (i dont know what units they use but thats what they told me)
Costing me $350 so im gunna have to hold off with installing a new/dual exhausts for now
Sorry hardtrailz you might have to wait or buy JCjargeads

I know some of you were on my post in the Appearance section, someone keyed the living hell out of my ride. Since I'm a little low on the cashola I'm going to be putting the exhaust mod off untill for a couple weeks. I'll keep everyone updated though.

I have them. They only slightly quiet the exhaust but they do an excellent job of deepening/mellowing the tone.

So I'm thinking that if I give a better description of what I want, It'll help you guys give me an idea of what I need. I'm just wanting the engine to be slightly louder than the exhaust, so not very loud but louder than the stock exhaust. I'm also wanting to remove as much drone as possible. I will most likely have my exhaust shortened because I'll also be getting this thing tuned soon and I'd like to remove some backpresure " basically making so that the muffler or res sits right after the cat converter under the chassis. Am I better going with a magnaflow muffler with a larger sound case or should I try out a Vibrant muffler or res?

Here's a pic I gave to DenaliHD66 as an idea....If I had some more spare coin I would probably try it.

Cherry bomb to two flowmasters, then two vibrant resonators, or possibly one resonator if you return to a single exit.

Never heard of these either, not super knowledgeable on exhaust brands. I would probably go with single pipe because I honestly don't make a whole lot. Had time to look up this video and I love this crackle... I realize it isn't the inline 6 that we have but I image it would sound somewhat similar. I just hate the drone on my current one so anything that would fix that, and perhaps quite it down a little would be amazing. Is it the cherry that's making the crackle? or is just the kind of muffler he bought?
