I searched various topics for hooking up a12V tie in, got lots of various ways to do it, but I figured someone here may have already done it. SI al looking tp add a female socket, (or convert one of the sockets under radio) so i can have a small USB charger power my Dash Cam and phone charger (both run off 5v) when the engine is running and cut power when the engine is off. (I keep forgetting to unplug the USB charger) Not sure of a preferred wire or fuse to tap into.

What I did was use a fuse tap like this in another switched circuit (IIRC I used the rear wiper circuit) and used that line to power the aux power fuse. Remove the fuse from the aux (lighter) power slot, put a small spade connector on the end of the wire and insert into the aux fuse connector that powers the lighter plugs.

I simply removed 1 of the 12v sockets and replaced it with 1 of these

Pretty cool and it's got a on and off button. If ur scared you'll forget to shut it off just buy 1 with a light color that stands out to you most.

Does the "wiper circuit" have enough "head room" to power both circuits? I guess, if it doesn't, then you get a blown "wiper fuse". Good idea for "sub powering" circuit with a different control need.

It should as you're basically tapping into the main switched 12V bus. You will have two separate fuses; one for the wiper circuit and another for the red wire going to the lighter. IIRC, the bottom fuse is for the original (wiper) circuit and the one on top for the wire so just reuse the same fuses.

I "misspoke" about the "blown fuse", its more of "melted wire" somewhere in the under hood fuse block. Are all "wire forms" in the underside of the fuse block "created equally" or are there various gages?

I would think you could tap into the radio wiring (red wire) since you wan't it to turn off automatically? I can charge my phone off the usb slot in my stereo (2.1A) so I would think it can handle it.

Those sockets @xavierny25 posted about are great. Just make sure it will fit your application as they are larger then the stock sockets.

I put something similar in the trunk of the Honda Accord. That was a different need though. All the acc sockets in the Honda turn off with when you turn the car off and we want to charge phones, out of sight, when the car is off and we wanted an easier to access 12v acc socket for an air pump for camping. I ran a line straight to the battery for that.

Yes, all the wire shunts in those blocks are the same gauge, and more than sufficient for ~30a. Also there are sheet metal busses inside the sandwich and I would assume those would be sufficient for most needs.

What I did for my bluetooth receiver is tie into one of the leads coming off the RAP relay in the rear fuseblock. If yours doesn't have this relay I'm fairly certain it can be added along with a terminal in the small square connector on this fuseblock. I would have to dig through the manual to find the actual pin and connector #.
