I have a 2004 Envoy XUV and the tailgate/endgate will not open. The rear window will not roll down when I use the key in the liftgate or when I use the switch inside the cab or even the yellow emergency release button in the back.

I have checked fuses and everything checks out there. I followed instructions on another forum to spice two wires together to override a "Rear Wiper Obstruction" error that was showing on the dash. That Error no longer shows but nothing has changed for the Endgate not operating issue.

If I push the inside yellow button (the emergency escape button) nothing happens - I don't hear anything making noise or trying to run. I have been trying to follow wiring diagrams that Mooseman posted on here and I have gotten as far as making sure that the Endgate Module is getting 12 volts (Endgate Module EGM C1 XUV Pin A and Pin D = 12v).

I'm getting desperate, does anybody have familiarity with this issue and can help me out?

EDIT:
No any dinging or DIC messages about the Endgate
Yellow escape button doesnt get the motor to make noise
I've tried following the recalibration procedures without any change in windows inability to roll down at all
Yellow button, cab buttons AND tailgate key dont move the window so I dont think its a switch issue

After looking at the diagrams that Mooseman provided (thank you Mooseman) here on GTM Nation here is where I'm at:

I need to check to see if the EGM (Endgate Module) is giving the Window Regulator power (EGM Connector Pin #2, Circuit No. 5441) when I am pushing the switch for the window to roll down. If the EGM is not giving the Endgate Window Regulator power then I need to check the Endgate Module connector (Pin C, Circuit No. 2740) to make sure that the EGM is getting power from the rear fuse block? I posted above that I checked Pin A (Circuit #3640) into the EGM from the rear fuse block and it did have 12v but I failed to check Pin C here to make sure it also had 12v.

Questions:
1) Does the above logic sound correct or am I off base?
2) Where is the yellow escape button found in the rear in the wiring diagrams? I do not see it on the "XUV Endgate Window Controls" or the other diagram?
3)Are the sensors that tell the system if they are open or not (for example the Liftglass ajar switch) run off a ground connection or positive?

Check for power going to Endgate Window Regulator here:

Otherwise make sure the EGM has power here:

In the FAQ, there are a number of links for XUV specific problems and even some videos.

I should have specified in my original post that the window itself will not roll down to allow tailgate functionality. I have read through those posts already and none of the posts were exactly my issue.

One that was pretty close was when they hit the yellow button they hear a click/the motor trying work but unfortunately my motor isn't making noise or trying to run at all

Unfortunately, my knowledge of the XUV is almost nil. @TollKeeper is our resident expert on it. He should be along soon.

Sorry for the delayed response, I am kinda a monday-friday guy for the forums.

Are you doing this only thru the overhead console, or are you also trying it by key at the endgate?

There are cases of the endgate key switch causing this problem.

No problem at all!

I am trying this through the overhead console and the key at the endgate. Neither does anything. I've also tried the yellow 'let me out!' button and nothing still. To my understanding that yellow button is supposed to overide the sensors and switches and roll down the window enough to get the door open - no luck

Sounds like you are going to need someone/a Tech2 and see if you can command it down, or open. Sounds like the EGM might not have the connections (corrosion), or be working correctly.

Where in Colorado are you? I am in Brighton.

Sweet, I'll give that a try. I think I know somebody that I can borrow one from

I live in Eagle County between Eagle and Edwards

I know this thread is almost 2 years old but I would like to update it in case somebody else finds it in the future. Most threads I've found on the rear endgate problems never have a follow up solution and leave people hanging!

I have not actually solved the problem (I parked the XUV and haven't been driving it), but I am determined to fix it and will update here when I do.

I found somebody with a computer like you mentioned that allows me to command the End Gate Module (EGM) functions.

I tried to Control the Window Position to open/close with the scanner and it wouldn't budge at all. It would not make any noise like it was even trying

The scanner would however open the liftgate drop or liftgate swing (I was careful to test this without breaking my rear window seeing as how it is still wedged into the closed position). You could hear these functions clicking open like they were working, but I didnt rip the endgate open with my window stuck in the upright position

Perhaps it may be as simple as the rear window motor being jammed or a bad endgate window regulator or a wiring issue to the regulator

Right...and any other XUV Owners coming to view your Thread here seeking a solution... will know it now, too. :>)

So I discovered that the Endgate Window Regulator plug was not getting power to Pin #7 (Battery Positive Voltage). Somewhere between the right rear fender and the endgate/liftgate the orange power wire loses power. There is a plug inside the right, very rear pillar that I haven't messed with yet and I imagine it might be in there or the grommet where the wires pass through to the liftgate. I jumpered power from where it was working to the window regulator pin #7 and the window rolls down! Finally!

The window and liftgate functionality doesn't work at all unless manually actuated via a scanner/computer. I'm working to fix that. Updating at Trailvoy.com but will post a final update here when everything is sorted for future Envoy XUV owners research
