Windows -_-

So yesterday my friend went to throw his banana peel out of the window, and the window stopped working and wouldn't go back up. So our first thought was the switch. We swapped passenger and driver side rear switches and it still didn't work. Instead it made a small gear stripping noise from within the electric switch. I locked the windows with the driver switch and tried to use mine and the window wouldn't budge. Later that evening when we were parked for less than a few seconds, the window just randomly rolls down all the way, and now its stuck like that. I am at a loss and wouldn't know where to begin looking for problems.

Thanks

sounds like a window regulator gone bad.

Yes it was the window regulator. I picked one up from advance and put it in and viola. It works again, however only from the drivers switch. So both rear switches are bad LOL I swapped them in and out of the good window and it made the window roll down all the way

Yeah but it was just organic material. Throw it off into the bushes and let some critter chew on it.

But then if everyone did that then you would have a bunch of critters running around. Lol

The planet is mad at having things thrown at it and shut your window down. Pick up a couple bags of trash as retribution and you will find the window works...

You are right, but I find it hard to believe throwing an apple core or banana peel out the window constitutes as littering. We were on a road in northern Michigan with thick forest on both sides and he threw it into the forest. Its biodegradable. However if you are thinking about just tossing a banana in the middle of the road then I completely agree with you.

For those of you who care...

ever see a hawk, falcon, or other winged predator on telephone/power lines on roadsides? THIS IS NOT NORMAL. They should cover miles, not just the heyday of rodents that are eating your apple cores and banana peels on the shoulder. These animals also get hit by cars because they are honed in on a meal.

From the volunteers @ the u of MN raptor center. Kids I work with love that place.

On the contrary, several species of birds of prey actually are quite accustomed to being around humans. And their preferred habitat is near open fields, swamps and marshes were they can easily see their prey.

Yes you're right, but not on the lines feet from the shoulders of interstates and county roads in the burbs and city. A pole in a field yes. Next to the road that 20k cars drive on is not. They've become scavengers in the city. No marsh, no field, just a roadside shoulder, also know as fast food to them.

I think you meant to say that littering by humans attracts scavengers. Therefore this act is causing more scavengers to look for food near the road and this is not normal.

Well, yes it is normal. As long as food is available there will be scavengers. They are just taking advantage of the situation.

The question isn't about being normal, it's about being right. We must be careful defining what normal is in this case.

Is it right to feed wildlife? In most cases no. The reason is because they become accustomed to it and they can die if the supply is suddenly cut off.

When is it ok to feed animals? Usually when they are domesticated such as your dog or cat, etc.

Will the animal adapt and forage for food themselves if we stop littering on the side of the road? This is debatable. A lot of scientists think that feeding them is akin to a biological handicap.

Talk about going off topic in a thread about a window regulator :rotfl:

my bad  I was at the raptor center with kids I work with today and the volunteer lady brought this exact topic up. Just don't litter on my street and I won't put it on your doorstep.

As Kyle says, there is no excuse. Rationalization, maybe.

The simple question to ask about all these sorts of things is "What if everybody did it, all the time, forever?"

Surely the answer is "Can't be sustainable. It's ugly, nasty, and if somebody sees you do it, and feels empowered to do the same, it ain't right."

So what is the right threshold? I claim it's zero. Don't do it even once. Don't rationalize biodegradability. Don't throw a second item of litter if you see one already there. Don't be a bad example to others. How is this even debatable?

I see exactly where you are coming from and I understand and it does give me a view under a different light. I am a logical person, so I can truly see both sides here lol...although I do say living in Michigan my whole life makes me biased towards camping and the great outdoors in that sense, and its what my parents did so I never second guessed others doing the same. But if I were to see miles and miles of rotting banana peels then yes that changes things quite a bit. Reminds me of working on a car, preventative.

Just a thought. Perhaps we shouldn't be talking about littering. Vehicles do a fair share of that. Breathing in all that CO and NOX. Besides the whole topic about littering is relative depending on the severity of the issue facing the public. I don't think one banana peal thrown out into woods is going to start a pandemic of banana throwers. This is not a serious discussion. I hope.

I love how this has become more about littering then fixing windows....when honestly, none of us really care at all because deep down we wished we had one of these to really roll some coal into the atmosphere.

Nice numbers but it was on the dyno. It was done for a point, not just rolling coal.

I have several buddies that have 600-1000 HP diesels. They smoke, but coaling coal to roll coal is as dumb as a fart can on a honda. Some loud obnoxious Hondas are fast as shit, but for the most part it is dumb.

The guy that tuned my buddy's cummins is actually running for the world record in Super Stock class at the NHRDA Event in Indianapolis this weekend.

I understand smoke and am flat out amazed at what some of these diesels can do. I still don't have the desire to sit around rolling coal.
