Which radar Detector do you have?

Even long rolling hills like in Kansas, if you are approaching the top of one and the top of the next hill is 2 miles and a cop "shoots" a car that is say a 1/2 mile ahead of him, the V-1 will pick it up easily. The arrows are nice because as you roll by the radar it moves from front arrow to side and then to the rear arrow confirming that you have passed by it. Sometimes you never see who is tracking you, or if its left or right of you-well now you know. The volume also has two settings- the main volume is the knob and then muting volume is the ring around it. So if it does become annoying while its beeping, you simply push the knob and it goes down to your preset muting volume...not completely off.
We were talking earlier about Bel and Passport being the same parent company. Escort was the forerunner to Passport and the developer of Valentine is the person who helped get Escort going. He became disenchanted with the direction Escort was going which led to his quitting and starting up Valentine (his name).

That's great!! Looks like I'll chip in for a valentine then and go with that. Just got to save up a bit for it. Thanks for your help and info it helped a ton

Edit: how often do you have to upgrade the firmware for the v1? Also what happens if you don't? Let's say u have a new one available but I don't bother to upgrade it.

I haven't yet and have had it about 3 years. Its Euro POP 2 so there isn't much that has made it ineffective....yet.

Not a bad choice. I'll keep my Bel, but I'd have no problem rolling around with the V1.

Have you decided where/how you want it mounted? For the first two vehicles I had my RX65 in, I used the stock cups and stuck it in the bottom center of the windshield. It was close enough I could reach the controls, and out of my line-of-sight for the road.

When I got my Envoy, putting it at the bottom of the windshield put it too far away from me. Also, I was extremely annoyed by having to put it back up after it fell down. I tried the super-cup mount from Bel and put it under my mirror. At the same time, I picked up an invisicord (you can make them yourself easily) to tap into my mirror's power. This worked great, but the cup still fell down from time to time. Eventually, after about 20 months and 40,000 miles, the cup ripped where it attaches to the mount.

After much profanity, I finally gave in and bought a Blend Mount. It's ridiculous to pay $80 for a RD mount, but it is the best mount you can buy. Metal construction that clamps to the mirror stem. After you get over the initial pain when you buy, you'll never go back to suction cups.

I'm not a big believer of hiding the radar detector from cops or thieves. Like I was saying before, if a cop is going to give you a ticket, he's going to give you a ticket. All you can do if you are pulled over is be respectful to the cop. No matter where you put it on your dash, a cop is going to see it. Likewise, if someone's going to break into your vehicle, they're going to take what they want. Just being in the wrong place is going to have much more to do with making you a victim than what you have on your dash. My last truck was broken into when I was working 2nd shift and had to park in a nearly empty public garage. They pried my dash apart to get at a $50 HU, but actually unplugged and didn't touch my $300 RX65. Point is, I was robbed because my truck was in a good place to be robbed, not because I had anything particularly eye-catching that they wanted to steal.

Well with the suction cups I want to put it by my rear view mirror next to it on the left so it's by me and I can see what it says easly. I do want to chip in for one of these if those suction cups don't work well (which lots of people say they don't)

Now does the performance get effected with we're you mount it? I read the best spot is at the middle of your windshield. Also that mirror one actually does hide the rd pretty well unless your parked then yeah anyone can see it. Me personally I plan on when I park I take the rd down and put it back up when I get back in like when I go to class or work and all. Not going to deal with the headache of a break in. The area I'm in and go to on a day to day is a good area but anything can happen you know. the rd should just clip off the mount and I can put it in my arm rest or something. I used to have those navs you put up on the windshield and I did the same with that. Just gives one less reason to look at my truck vs others.

Technically, the laser performance is supposed to be better when you mount it lower. For radar performance, the center of the windshield may be technically better, but I highly doubt you'll notice any decrease in performance if you mount it anywhere else.

The blend mount is definitely a better mount, but the one you function just as well.

Yeah I like how those mounts look. They look cleaner to me also. Does the rd just slide off it if you want to take it down or does it have to unclip off the rd?

On mine, if I press down on the front of the detector, it will give me access to the release button so I can slide it off. I think the V1 should be able to slide off.

I know they haven't been mentioned, but I run the K40 RL360 w/ diffusers in my truck and it's saved me a few times. Realistically the radar industry is one of the more corrupt I've seen. Majority of all reviews and tests you see about them are completely rigged. No radar company has technology the others don't so look to the little features you might like and what you can afford. With that said I also rent cars a lot or if I don't drive my truck use the K40 RL100. Not a fan of anything suctioned to the window but the performance is excellent and the price is great. Good luck!
