Definitely using spacers or adapters puts extra stress on components such as hubs and ball joints. How much this is acceptable is up to the person using them and having a strict inspection regimen.
GMT360's were always the oddballs in wheel bolt patterns and therefore selection was very limited, more so today since the platform has been out of production since 2009 so not too many wheel manufacturers are willing to make them.
