What type of gasket maker for rear end differential Dana super 70?

I’m planning to change the diff. fuild on the 05express 3500 van.

I think there isn’t a gasket but do see some grey gasket maker.old coverrear end cover rusted.jpg

new cover will continue to clean an paint.

I believe I purchased the wrong type of gasket maker I saw the grey on the package not sure what or if I was thinking bc the package says blue. This
rear end gasket maker.jpg

maybe this
corrct gasket maker.jpg
1.should I use a rubber gasket?

2.if yes to ?1 should I smear the correct gasket maker on both sides of rubber gasket?

3. if no to ?1. how thick of gasket maker should I apply?

4.should the cover be tightened snug then wait one hour for gasket to form then tighten?

Part 2 same gasket ?s but for the transmission pan.

Thanks for advising

Yes

No

For tranny, use rubber and no sealer. Cork is junk.
I’m a bit confussed on this rear end it has 12 bolts. I think it’s a dana super70. here’s the model #s lable.

Here’s a painted diff. cover from y tube has same van w/ same model# lable as mine.

When I look at rock auto https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...01,drivetrain,differential+cover+gasket,13411

I get more confussed bc I see 10 bolts an 14 bolts.

this is why I'm leaning toward making a gasket. thanks

If you can't find or match up to the proper cover and gasket, then you definitely can use an RTV gasket maker. It's just more of a PITA to clean the next time to take the cover off.

That Permatex one you posted above looks to be a specialized one for diffs and would be suitable however just about any type would work. Just follow the directions.

The first one (Permatex #2) is a sealant, not a gasket maker, used with paper type gaskets.
