What happens if you overfill your engine oil?

Reminds me of my old job when we went to pick up our work cars from Firestone, one was a 2015 Ford Escape. It was so overfilled smoke would just billow out of the tailpipe when accelerating, and you could feel the engine just struggling to even rev up. It was 3-4 quarts overfilled when I pulled over to look at the dipstick, turned around to have them "fix" it. They tried to play it off being a quart overfilled, but the damage was done. It smoked like hell when leaving, and not too long after they put a new engine in after the piston rings, and seals were trashed.

Its great being able to see what happens inside an overfilled engine however.

I don't take any of our vehicles to a quick lube place. Far too many horror stories out there of damage done by them. I either change the oil myself, or take it to the shop that has been servicing my vehicles for over 20 years.
It was pretty cool to see what goes on inside the engine, though!

I was amazed at the aeration going on even at the first overfill.

As far as quick lubes are concerned, well, this says it all:
