@Mooseman thanks brother..didn't know I had to take that whole thing out..I'm out here 2 hours scratching my head and rereading the instructions..got most of the headliner out though..except these last 2 tabs in the rear..I don't see how to take them out without breaking them are they purposely made that way or am I missing something

Unfortunately, I have never done it myself. Looks like regular christmas tree type push pins. They might break like they all do. Should be able to find replacements.

I have an upholstery tool made for those that just looks like an almost flat pry bar with a screwdriver handle. It slides under the head and pries the whole press in plug out. It's about 3/4" wide and has about a 1/4" notch in it to go around the shaft of the plug. If they're brittle from age, they may break anyway, so you may just want to get some replacements. Kinda looks like this:

Good Luck!

Got the assembly, motor and broken parts out..gave the track a good cleaning with some dishwasher soap water in a spray bottle and old toothbrush..better than wasting the 5.00 a can brake cleaner on it..i was ready to reassemble and forgot about those darn rivets..I don't have a rivet gun..I'll be adding that to the tool inventory tmrw

Its not a fun job. Way easier on the XUV thou, only have the headliner (as it only has 1/2 a headliner) to pull out. I forgot to rebend one of the limit tabs back into position, remember to do that, otherwise you will have to remember it everytime you go to use it, and not to over extend it.

Also, be sure to check its operation before you put the headliner back in.

Thank you for sharing this @Uncleenvoy, I have the same job to face in a couple weeks while on vacation. Really not looking forward to removing the headliner with 18YO fasteners but the wind noise with just my RR corner dropped down is surely annoying.

Where did you get your repair kit from if you don't mine me asking? II believe the one I looked at was the Sunroof Doctor...? IIRC.

SUCCESS!! Despite me being a total dummy.. since mine was broke and I guess I just wasn't paying attention I didn't realize that part A and B were really the broken piece of part C.. those parts connects to the cable that pulls/push sunroof at the point where the arrows are pointing..I put it back together with the old broken peices and the new piece, of course it didn't work..2 1/2 hours tying to figure out what I did wrong and 20 minutes to get It right once the light bulb went off...luckily the rivet gun I bought today came with 60 assorted rivets..

@gmcman i got it from eBay for 39.95 from seller name elmaalie-0...I looked at sunroof doctor first and was about order it but saw a lot of others look exactly the same for so much less..I don't know if they use cheaper materials or something but we'll see..headliner really wasn't that hard if u get or have that pry tool thing that me and @christo829 mentioned above...I've got a 2004 envoy slt only 2 years younger...the only tricky parts for me were the sunvisors and the the roof handles and needed a large torx bit to get rear seatbelt mounts t50 I think.I'll post pics and how I got it done after reassembly tmrw..and the link that moose an shared in post #3 was helpful.

Also if you're doing it by yourself..put something in between the headliner and the sunroof assembly to hold it up..it's not that heavy but it does have some weight on it so when u only have the last nut left it could bend or break something..a shoebox would be good..u can see in my pic with the roof open I used what I had in the truck..a pack of wee wee pads and a leather portfolio

How dare they bucketize my photos....

I will have to download all my photos off them and rehost them. Will update the original links when i got time. Probably will use a google account.
