Would tin snips cut the airbags just fine? I'm thinking some rubber epoxy to glue both pieces back once I remove about 1" of the bag's center...

I hear that using PVC piping and using longer bolts to extend the struts to the new height is a great, cheap way to get it done.

Use copper pipe to extend the drive shaft.
