recently the service 4x4 light came on in the dash, also the light on the selector doesn't light as it used to. when I turn the key on all the lights come on the selector at the same time then go out. Also when I turn the wheel hard from a stop or moving real slow it feels like something is binding.what should I look for to fix this. I know I need to change fluids as I have about 112k on the truck.

Has the transfercase been changed yet? If not at 112k you may be screwed already because it is suposed to be changed every 50k. Try turning on the ignition but not starting the truck and switching the selector and see if you get two seperate motor sounds. I know Roadie can explain it better.
tried tuning the ignition on and turning the selector and didn't hear anything. how bad could this be? not sure if transfer case fluid was ever changed bought the truck with about 85k on it.. I did tranny fluid about 105k and it was very clean.

other problems may be the selector switch might just need to switch it back and forth like fifty times to clean the contacts. also try searching there is alot of posts about 4wd issues.

2002 had TCCM issues.
The binding you're feeling may be due to the transfer case fluid needing changing, and may be a separate
issue from the actual lack of lights on the switch.
Start there, and we'll see where the results lead.

thanx Christo I will check into it this weekend hopefully the weather here holds up since I don't have a garage
