I have seen several threads about roof rack removal, but nobody actually says what set screws are needed to fill the holes, or where to get them. Can someone tell me, so I can go get some? If I dont hear anything, I guess Ace Hardware will be my first stop.

So what do you guys think? Should I remove them? My side moldings are painted and look like new, any reason to remove them? Will it look any better in everyone's opinions?

I am removing the roof rack for sure, but not sure it will stay off. It has never been off, so it needs a good cleaning underneath, I am sure, so at least I will do that.

Does anyone have a blue EXT with these removed?? Would love to see pictures.

Another question. Can the onstar and XM antenna be removed without a huge gaping hole in my roof? I do not use them and they look like they will be an eyesore.

I think for the racks my husband just used the pre-existing screws in the holes as a temporary fix. Some people will plug he holes with a silicone material I believe. I had my racks put back on after someone called the Envoy a van...I think TB's look good without them, but envoy's dont look all that fab without the racks.

The modling is for a cleaner look, yes a lot of people here would have the opinion that it would look better, but it ultimately isn't up to us and our opinions in how your truck looks shouldn't matter. All that should matter is that YOU like it.

I have a black LWB envoy....not sure if I even kept the pictures of the roof rack being removed. I had it put back on after 3 days or so lol.

The origional bolts are like 3" too long. LOL.. As for the molding, that is one thing that once it is off, it is off. I have no way to put it back on correctly. So I think that until I see an EXT in my color with the molding gone, I will just leave it.

Well the rack is off. Not sure I like the hole/fasteners in the roof. Hoping to find something at teh store that will cover them up better than set screws. I love how it looks though without the rack. Very clean look. I never liked that stupid thing anyway. Unfortunately, if I cant find something that looks decent to cover the holes, it might just have to go back on.

I don't know....Maybe it's just the LWB's that look wonky without the racks to me. I mean it IS YOUR truck and if you like it that's all that matters. I like the racks off on SWB TB's but I don't think i'm fond of no racks on the LWB's or Envoy's.

Here is a picture of mine without the molding, granted I have a black truck lol As far as putting the molding back on, just use double sided sticky tape, that's really all that keeps them on anyways.

Yeah, I am not really loving it. I think I will leave it off for a few days and see. I pulled the running boards off too, uploading pics now. I will post them up in a minute.

I can definately see why you would remove the molding on that Envoy. It is ugly as hell. Mine is body color and doesnt look too bad.

Anyway, here are some pictures with the running boards off.

HA, I was searching for "EXT rack removal" in titles. Wasnt thinking the bolt, or set screw size would be the same, but of course it is. LOL...

OK, so this rack may be going back on before the day is out. Not sure I am loving the look. I hate the look of the rack, but those goofy dimples everywhere look ridiculous, plus the bump in the back.

Has anyone gone through the effort to get a body shop to eliminate the holes and bumps? That would be interesting to see on an EXT.

SSs don't have racks.

Sorry was using my marine acronyms without thinking. Stainless Steel racks on the 9-7 and Rainier along with the 9-7 and Rainier specific boards with the chrome strip. And I'll add that I love the look of no mouldings but it aint practical with idiots swinging their doors open. Try parking at the airport for constant business travel where you take any spot you are lucky enough to get and those fools next to you hit your car pulling their luggage out of their back seats.

That antenna looks cool I wouldn't touch it lol

Also a very simple mod to tie in with the mods your pulling, paint the bowtie black and color match the side view mirrors. will change the look of the truck and will look really clean.

edit: didn't see you mentioned set screws lol nvm

I agree I like the look of the rack removal on your ext. The color kinda hides the bumps a little. Now I think I'd want an ext too

I did mine a while back
http://gmtnation.com/f33/waddiya-think-rackless-ext-5623/

What did you do with the two ugly humps in the front mounting points? I can't see them at all in the pics. I had mine done in the shop. They pounded them all in, filled with fiberglass and painted. Smooth as a baby's butt, no holes at all.

And now looking at yours without the running boards, thinking of doing that too!

Oh, and I don't care about stick figure families neither

My wife was driving it and her friend found those "skinny arm/skinny leg" figures with UF clothes on. She put them on without my knowlege, I just never got around to removing them.

Do you have any close ups of the body work? I put mine back on because those humps look like donkey ass. Baby ass would be much better. I loved the way it looked from about 15 feet though.

Just lift your truck so it's harder to see the roof.

It pisses-off a few people, but it's worth it

yeah and i am one of them. i have them on my wife's 03 envoy xl. we still have our roof rack on also. with 4 kids and not much cargo room in the back, we have to install a camper shell on top everytime we go on vacation. but i like the looks anyways with the roof rack on. just wish i could find a cleaner that would bring the black plastic back to black since it is oxidized. 1st owner didn't take care of the black plastic very well. we got it last year from dealer with only 100,000 miles on it

Seems kinda pointless on a 2wd. I am thinking it would cost less to have the entire roof replaced than it would cost to do a lift, rims, tires, etc.

There are a few people who have 2wd lifted GMT360s and do just fine.

I didnt say they wouldnt do fine, just do not see the point. I have had many lifted vehicles,, and currently have a lifted Jeep. I am not going to lift a 2wd to hide bumps on the roof. Far too expensive, and I will jsut leave the rack on instead. I will pound out the bumps and fill the holes before I spend the money on lifting a 2wd.
