Factory metal based with the rubber is the way to go. I just changed mine a few weeks ago. Be sure you can get the fill plug out first before you drain it.
Thanks, that seems obvious but wanted to be sure this was best even with an added silicone bead. What are the realistic options should the plug be rust locked? Any recommended techniques for removal.
Shops would weld a bolt in the plug. The heat also helps loosen it. There are specialized sockets with a true square that will fit better than a ratchet extension with its rounded corners.
