That other guy has wider tires, with more grip actually touching the road instead of being in grooves for offroading. The SUV dude played it smart, the other guy just assumed, "Me have gas pedal, me have power!" It's important to know your peak HP and torque RPMs and know the breakaway torque on your tires.
