My wife comes home tonight and the TB dies on the driveway just as she is ready to park. I go to start the car and the dash is dead;no lights. I wait a while and try again, this time it fires right up but I get a solid red battery symbol and the DIC shows the message "Battery not charging".

I checked the battery bolts, they are clean, tight and well greased with dielectric grease. Seems like a classic alternator failure....does this seem right..?? It is the original unit with 11 years and 140,000 miles under its belt.

Any recommendations for a replacement unit..??

Thanks..!!

Dave.

Happened to me, I wiggled this wire and it roared back to life....been fine for over 6 months now. You could have it rebuilt, just check around..and will likely be a whole lot cheaper. Canot comment on a new one, I'm still on the stocker, unless I just completely jinxed myself. :lipsrsealed:

I've had good luck with a new Remy since last year after a couple of duds that were cheap Chinese knockoffs. Checked on Advance Auto's site, don't list it anymore for our trucks. Too bad since they had a llifetime warranty. Duralasts on Autozone have a lifetime warranty but I have no experience with them. A good warranty is worth it. And modt places usually can test your old one.

Ended up buying a reman from Advanced Auto Parts, which came with a lifetime warranty. They tested the old unit and found it to be dead. The new unit was installed within the hour and the TB was purring like a kitten again.

That's an alternator and a starter motor within the last 11 months, so I'm really hoping that's it for a while. I especially dont fancy replacing the a/c compressor, based on cost and location in the engine bay.
