Well I couldn't deal with the faded chrome anymore. So here goes nothing...

Before:

close up photo, not the smoothest finish in the world, but I'm not that good with a rattle can:

back on the truck, I'm really thinking about doing my bug shield in the same finish as the grill:

What is silver metalizer??

The silver metalizer is a Plasti-dip product that gives an already dipped surface a metallic finish. They also have a gold metalizer and a bronze metalizer.

I think a billet GMC would look good, but I don't know if they make one, I looked on ebay and found this (and more like it)

I thought about doing the gmc as well, but then I didn't. Still might though. Definitely doing the bug shield on Saturday because I think it looks stupid as is. I know that after that ill want to do the window vents, but I don't know if ill have enough plasti so that may have to wait.

I know a lot of people like the idea of plasti-dipping the GMC to, but I think it perfectly says I AM GMC. That color in the see of black shows attitude to me.

Honestly I was not happy with the way this looked, so I changed it up a bit. I think it looks 100% better now :wootwoot:

I made the bug shield match the grille. It's a small change, but I think it makes a difference. Plus, I had some plasti-dip left over so it took very little effort. I'm thinking of doing my window vents as well.

OK, I don't think the pics show the difference that well, but I'm sure it looks better in person.

The difference is slight but it's there. you have to look at the shiny-ness of the bug shield. In the top pic it looks like a gloss finish and in the bottom one it has more of a satin finish. Looks good

Plasti dip is awesome an very easy to use. Just be sure to soak the cans in some warm water and shake well. It makes for a smoother finish.

While I definitely respect what you are trying to do there, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say it's not what I personally would have done on that truck.

No doubt the chrome on yours sucked balls and needed to be addressed, but with the size of that grill and the fact that it basically 'makes' the whole front end, the plasti-dip makes it look like a base-model truck.

Just my own personal opinion, but if that was mine, I'd take the time to see if I could find a place that would mix me up a can of color matched spray paint, and match the grille to the body. Then do the part of the grille that's supposed to be black in a true black.

I was going for a ford raptor lookalike. While I'm not 100% pleased with it, it was a low cost temporary solution to the problem. Of the truck didn't have so many other problems I would have spent the money to get it redone in chrome.

My grille bar was faded and pitted as well. Total cost of 15 bucks to body match it.

Ours was color matched from the factory since it's an LTZ, I ended up plasti-dipping the front grill out of curiosity myself and whoa, it changed the whole front persona of the truck and makes it look so much more agressive. So I get where you where going. I dunno if the Colorado could ever pull off Ford Raptor though.

In all reality, I think my truck will look much better when lifted, but hey, one step at a time. Also, I have a yet to be installed bull bar and I think that will make the front end look a bit better as well.

Sell your bull bar to the next sucker, use money for lift. Get custom steel bumper, then it will look mean. look at the other ten million dudes who get brush guards/bull bars, get a real lift then get the itch and end up with a steel bumper. Go big or go home, lol. :wootwoot:

Haha I don't think it'd be worth anything. My buddy just welded some 2 inch pipe together to somewhat resemble a bull bar... I didn't spend any thing on it. Right now I need to put my money into new tie rods to pass inspection and getting my 4x4 to work properly. Lift will come this fall, then h3 wheels and bigger tires.

Looks great, isnt the plasti dip, the stuff people are using on there rims.

Yup it is. Some people use it on the entire car too...

Now that i know that Canadian tire has most of the line up of plasti dip i gotta ask. How many cans did you use for your grille? Im suspecting i can prob most likely get away with a single can for the grille bar for my TB but figured i would ask.

One can will be more than enough for the grille bar.

ya my emblem looks like shit lol I need to do something with it. My grille is cracked now cuz I hit a bird so I need to rethink things up front.

Also, because it's been over a year now; the plasti-dip is still on there and has held up great. I think there is one small chip in it but it would be easily fixed. I bought another can to do touchup but I've been busy with other projects.
