Question for whores, re my new 2015 Silverado work truck, stopped on hill and dic says "hill assist", what happens that holds the truck from rolling back?

I remember finding out about these along time ago. I had worked at a Subaru dealership in 1984 and 85. They had hill holder; you pushed the brake and clutch down completely and it wouldn't let you roll back until you started to release the clutch.

I have this on my 2010 Equinox but not sure how it works exactly weather its electronic or mechanical.

I always loved that feature in the Subaru legacy I used to drive.
