Well that sucks. I'm only averaging about 15.5 mpg right now. I do commute in lots of traffic everyday though and she does quite well on the open highway.

Just got back from a trip. On my first fill up it was all interstate 70-75 mph with a/c on and off. Mostly easy drive with one decent grade. Got 19.56 mpg on that stretch. The second fill up involved getting stuck in road construction, driving in Seattle, getting stuck in traffic in Seattle and going over Snoqualmie pass twice. Still got just over 17 so not shabby. I have not filled up again after another 180 freeway miles and about 60 around Spokane. Sitting on the 1/4 tank line right now.

Did a Thruway trip ,about 60 miles, pretty much level with some changes in grade.Kept it at 60-70 and had AC on,got between 23-24 mpg which seems about right...Mike
ps this was via DIC mpg and it has always been "dead nuts" on as far as accuracy.

I am presently getting 18.5-19.5 on mostly highway. I think my thermometer is slightly stuck open because the needle stayed well under the 210 mark in the winter and in the summer heat it will sometimes hits the 210 mark. Plus I was getting 22MPG on pure highway so someday I'll get around to checking the thermo.

Well, a couple weeks ago, I bought some new tires. My MPG previous to the new tires was 17.6.

New Tires on.. First tank was 18.1, Second tank was 18.6, and I am working on my third tank, and it looks like it will be coming in close to 19.

Liking my new tires so far... Falken Rocky Mountain ATS (also known as Falken Wild Peak)

2004 Rainier with AWD and 3.73 gears. I always run 87 octane with 0% ethanol. E10 drops things 10-20%.

Doing 60-65mph, I can get 20-21 mpg round trip. If I bump that up to 75mph, I drop to about 16mpg.

Around town, I usually get around 12mpg.

Kinda looking forward to a trip this weekend to TN just to see what kind of mileage I get on a real road trip. Longest trip so far has been about 200 miles one way. 16.7 was the best on that one.

strat, nice sig! I have it on a couple of other boards - gun related - and thought I'd add it here when I saw yours.

Thought I would add on here from our latest adventure. First tank truck loaded to the gills, AC on the entire time all highway but a lot of 45-55mph. 22mpgs. 2nd tank was still loaded, AC on towing my little 16ft aluminum boat (in 3) up and down some pretty good grades. For you North Idaho folks we picked up the boat in Potlatch and took it down to Freeman Creek on Dworshak Reservoir. Made a trip down to Orofino to find the adapter I needed to actually hook up the lights on the trailer and then back from Freeman to Potlatch. Got 12mpg on that tank. I considered that to be pretty good considering the amount of crap we had and the hills we were climbing. Still considering trying ethanol free just to see what difference I may get for the price.

Towed our tent trailer (about 3,500lb) and bucked the wind the entire way. Got 12.4 MPG (imperial gallons).
I started running Shell V power (premium with no ethanol) in my Accord and noticed a large jump in MPG's. Gonna try it in the Envoy, once I'm done towing and see if I get better fuel economy.

The trip down saw 18 on the DIC, which has been off no more than a tenth or two. A/C on, cruise set at 70. Going home, we're pulling a 5x8 enclosed Uhaul. I'm not sure how bad it will hurt.

Coming back with the trailer with a few pieces of furniture totalling about 500#. Mileage was about 14 mpg, A/C was on about half the trip since it was cooler. I thought I was sucking oil because I checked it half way down there Friday and it was a quart low. I figured the sustained high speed was drinking the oil through the bad PCV system, so I was already thinking of getting the new valve cover. Today, every time I stopped, I checked the oil. It was good every time.

Just did a run from Mississauga to Albany ... best I could get was 12.4L/100kms (20.0mpg), cruise on, 75mph, 2 people.

I've been averaging over 15L/100kms combined.

Did a 100 mile round trip, towing a trailer, with 2 quads, from Denver (5000 alt) to my cabin (8500 alt) and back. Averaged 17.2.

Filled it up, and did a week of to and from work (26 miles one way, 80% Hwy) and got it to 19.2.

Loving these new tires.

I like my truck, but it is quite inferior in many ways to some others I have had. Mileage is one of them that is just not so good.
When I first bought this PU it had 17K miles. It is a 1500 Classic...... the 2007 is not as nice or as good a truck as my previous 2001, 2500HD crew cab, with a 6.0L.
The mileage was about 11 to 12 MPG at best no matter how gingerly I coaxed it along using all the ideal "tricks" to make it better.
I bought a Bully Dog III and finally ended up at the highest performance and octane rating program which did make the truck actually run a bit better.
However, the mileage still only increased from 1 to 1.5 MPG at best. So, $350 for 1+MPG..... okay I guess. I also bought and used an EDGE CTS prgrammer.
The EDGE costs about $250 more than the Bully dog and does not do anything actually better that the BD III except that it has a larger display. It is cool,
and it works very well, but it is a steep price to get only a very little bit better..... The BDIII is the best for the money.
Final results? I get about 12 to 13 MPG consistently, and it now has 21K miles on it. There is just not much we can do to make these do much.
Most of my drives are just 5 to 10 miles in length, so the real highway miles per gallon I just do not know, but estimate them to be about 16MPG.
I hope this helps someone. The one thing I have learned through all of this is that by using the programmers, we DO gain a much better running and driving truck,
and even though it does not make any major difference in mileage, the driving and shifting improvements are MUCH better than the stock factory setups. Good luck guys!

Interested in said tires:smile:

I was able to do a 1000k mile trip with 95% HWY and averaged 18.2mpg with my fiance and 2 cats.

Haven't reset the fuel economy since and I'm down to 15.1 avg over 3k miles.

I've done some general maintenance since and put on some Destination 2 tires(better be the ones you have!)

Doing the same trip in a few weeks with my tune, intake and efans...we'll see if it gets better.

Coming from a 4cyl background this hog is making me sick(though I love the low torque)...My fault though...I drove an I6 TB with 3.42 and it was quick, so I was like oh the 5.3 with 3.73 what a treat...only to find out the short wheel base doesn't have dod :frown:

I'm getting rid of my DOD with a tune. It doesn't help my mileage at all that I can tell, and I am burning oil. Hopefully I can stop any further damage from being done by the DOD activating. I have read reports of people using a plug-in module to disable DOD seeing little to no loss of mileage and some are even reporting gains.

I did a trip to TN and saw 19 mpg as a high. In the summer, I average around 13-14, with mostly city driving, and winter is down around the 10-11 range.

DOD on these trucks doesn't seem to be all its cracked up to be, and from some of the things I have read thru the forums, they are actually known to have issues. Be glad you didn't get the DOD..

And I would KILL to have your gears. I have the 3.42's and it is a dog up in the mountains.. But the fuel mileage is good! :rotfl:

Those said tires that I have are the Falken Rocky Mountain, also known as Falken Wild Peak, are the tires I have. My fuel mileage has dropped off, but I have been abusing it more lately with my larger trailer, and longer mountain runs.. Still averaging 16.3 thou, which considering the terrain, and load, I am not complaining.

Got rid of mine, but did the full delete. Had to, since I swapped the cam. I now have a much nicer truck to drive and no worries about oil consumption anymore.

As for mileage, I'm getting 10-12 cty (new cam has me in the pedal a lot more... hehe). I am still getting around 20 on the hwy @ 70mph

Well finally after maintenance I'm getting really good gas mileage.
New iridium plugs
New wires
New air filter
Engine flush
Oils change
Pulled and cleaned throttle body and MAF
What difference. After 400 mile trip yesterday here's the average. Been about 1200 miles total since maintenance.

Well, I've often wondered that, but to be honest with you I don't know. I guess there are some numbers in the glove box or something I need to look at.

Yep, look in the glove box for the RPO code sticker. You will see one or more G-codes. GU6 is 3.42, GT4 is 3.73 and GT5 is 4.10. If you have a G80, that means you have the locking rear end.

With his being an 06, it would also have DOD wouldn't it?

It should. Being 2WD prolly helps a lot, too.

I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference with the DOD. As soon as I can be without mine for a few days, I'm shipping the PCM off for a flash to disable DOD (among other things).

It's called the locker because it'll leave you locked in place while you wait for help when it fails on you. :raspberry:

We must have switched to summer gas. My DIC is reporting 13.5 mpg so far on this tank. Over the winter, it hovered around 10.5-11 mpg. Manual calc and DIC agree within a tenth or so, so I trust the DIC.

I'm at 16.4 and it's pretty much stayed there even when I disabled AFM . In the summer it's been 17.4 . Mostly rural and village driving very little Thruway driving and 342:1 gearing....Mike.

3.73 rear gears here, so I know I'll be a bit down compared to the 3.42's.

AFM will get disabled as soon as I can ship the ECM and TCM out. Heck, I should just drive over there one day - he's across the state from me.

For the last few weeks I've been getting only 11-12 mpg :frown:, I guess winter gas may be part of the problem. I bought a new thermostat and o ring and going to try and change it myself this weekend. I think the t-stat stuck open, on a really cold day the engine temp would drop to 167-172*when idling and turning the heater/blower on full. I'm Going through gas like no tomorrow so I hope it improves....gas is currently $4.91 gallon.

Are you still driving out of OD ? I seem to remember you saying that a while ago...Mike.

$1.30 Liter x 3.78 L......crazy huh  I still drive in 3rd most of the time but do use OD on hi ways 50 mph n over . Driving in 3rd never really made that much difference in mpg around town. I'll pay the extra fuel cost to have all 8 cylinders firing. I know I keep saying it but one of these days I'm gonna get the PCM tune and delete the dod, I don't think I need dod.

My 07 Denali running 18-19 mpg now at 141k in mixed driving. When it was new I could pull 22 on the interstates @ 70 mph. I'm going to miss this car when I have to give it up.

That's great mpg's...looks like 4wd costs us a bit more at the pump. I feel the same about giving it up in the future. There really isn't anything out there that gives you a V8 in a smaller sized suv...it's gonna be rough:frown:

My first "significant" trip yesterday.. 250 miles of flat, south florida driving. 06 Envoy XL Denali, with 74K miles, 4x4, stock everything with 255-55R18 tires *Nexen N'Fura's at 45 p.s.i. ), cruising mostly at approx 74 mph, yielded 19.1 average. no hard accellerating or quick stops, just an enjoyable ride... I'm pretty pleased with that

around town, I get approx 13 - 14.. which is the same thing my 07 TB LT 4x4 got.. so again.. I can live with that

My average city driving mileage as displayed in the DIC is 13.5L/100km (17.4mpg) city and on a trip to Vancouver thru the rocky mountains averaged 9.8L/100km (24mpg) pure highway. It has 130 000 kms (80 000 miles) is 4x4 and has the 3.42 gears really enjoying this truck!
