Lower ball joint stud spins / can't tighten nut

I use a jack under the rotor to lift the spindle up onto the ball joint shaft and bottom out the taper, this will lock the tapered parts then the shaft should not spin.

The jack will probably do the trick. If you are using a jack and it's still spinning, try tapping the knuckle into the taper and see if it'll catch. Use a 2x4, rubber mallet or something soft so you don't damage anything. I had to do this on a different car, but my trailblazer had no problem.

That was the trick. I put the jack right under the knuckle.
