Canada’s most-stolen vehicles

The Insurance Bureau of Canada has released its list of 2011′s most stolen vehicles and the 2000 Honda Civic SiR, which topped last year’s list, gets bumped to third place by a family wagon from Toyota.

Topping the list is the 2009 Toyota Venza, which is new to IBC’s list. The Venza is followed by the 1999 Honda Civic SiR, and rounding out the top five is the 2006 Ford F350 in fourth and the 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT in fifth.

The IBC has both good news and bad news in regards to auto theft in Canada. It says the number of stolen vehicles in Canada was down 15 percent in 2010 compared to 2009 (when approximately 93,000 vehicles were stolen). The bad news is that recovery rates for stolen vehicles are declining.

The IBC says high-end vehicles especially are hot targets for criminal organizations, as they’re used for parts or resold to unsuspecting consumers.

“Consumers need to be aware when they’re in the market for used vehicles or parts,” said Rick Dubin, Vice President, Investigative Services, IBC. “Those luxury, high-end vehicles may be hotter than you think.”

The bureau says less stolen vehicles are being exported out of Canada, but that means they’re likely being resold locally. In order to avoid buying a stolen vehicle, the IBC suggests buying cars from a reputable dealer and running a car history report.

The full list is as follows:

1. 2009 Toyota Venza
2. 1999 Honda Civic SiR
3. 2000 Honda Civic SiR
4. 2006 Ford F350 4WD
5. 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT AWD
6. 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS 4WD
7. 2007 Ford F350 4WD
8. 2001 Pontiac Aztek AWD
9. 1998 Acura Integra
10. 1999 Acura Integra

I would have thought the Integra fade would have died out by now. I am supprised the Neon is not on the list, there is enough of those 4 bangers hopped up out there, with fuzzy dice that is in the mirror.

 Pontiac Aztek? Seriously? Does that thing have parts compatible with a bunch of other vehicles or something? :undecided:

I think harmless is getting a new security system with major add-ons.

We almost got one as a college graduation gift for our daughter. If we had, she might have forgiven us by now.

[Wearing my Professor Roadie hat] That should be FEWER stolen vehicles. Less is for things you can't enumerate. FEWER is for things you can count. [Lesson over for the day.]

Just joking they were but ugly do not understand now they could be on the top 10 most stolen list:rotfl:

I think that anyone that bought one or owns one has developed a habit of leaving the windows open and the keys in the ignition while leaving it in "the wrong area"

Would they leave a sign in the window that says keys in ignition with flashing lights around the sign

well when only 20 Aztecs were sold, if one gets stolen that makes 5% of those vehicles are stolen.
