How do I disable the ABS warning chime?

Hey Guys.....Funny question.

Here's the scenario: I bought my 06 TB knowing that the rear end had been swapped out. ABS warning and Brake warning lights and sounds at start up go for 10 seconds or so. They Are VERY loud. I understand that they are supposed to be however, I also know that the brakes work fine and that everything is good. The swap was done in 08 and it has been on the road ever since. My friend is a mechanic and says that happens sometimes with rear end swaps if it wasn't the exact model or year or what ever. I plan on swapping out the rear end when I can find an 06
4X4 rear end. But for now I would like to get rid of the chime.

SO Question:

How do I get rid of the chime? Is it even possible? I figured maybe there is a fuse (ABS #33???) I can pull or a wire I can cut to temporarily disable the chime. I'll hook it back up when I swap in the new rear end.

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Pull the fuse for your radio or disconnect the left front speaker? No more chimes ever!:rotfl: Then again this is akin to putting tape over the check engine light.

There's lots of information on here about rear axle swaps that may give you an actual solution to whatever the problem is. What about codes? Not to be silly but have you checked the fluid level in the master cylinder? Low fluid results in the same lights and chimes.

EDIT: pulling the ABS fuse probably won't eliminate the chime as the PCM would see the entire system disabled and still need to warn you.

The issue is likely they put an older than 06 rearend in it. In 06 the ABS system changed. There are sensors at each end of the axle in the 06 and later that are not in the earlier ones.

You are right to swap to an 06 or newer rear end if you want it to turn the lights off.

Not sure if you can disable just the chimes.

-----Make sure you get the proper gearing so you don't f up more stuff by not having the front and rear gearing the same.

Thanks for the tips/ suggestions guys.

I know it was an 05 rear end swapped in so.......it makes sense about the sensor location difference.

It only chimes for about 10 seconds and there's no way I'll give up the radio so........I was hoping there was a fuse or something EASY that didn't effect other systems...

I've got some feelers out for a good doner vehicle ( I was gonna say "good rear end" but I know how people like to think!!!! so I can fix the issue properly.

Does the VIN number give you the gearing ratios? Just thought I would try to figure that out before I commit to buy something or rely on some dealer (who's trying to sell me the parts) to tell me what I need.

The RPO codes in the glovebox will give you the rear end ratio. Mine is GT4, which is 3.73. Not sure how to tell what the front is.

Front matches rear if 4x4 works.

Indeed. Imagine the carnage if they were mismatched!

I knew they had to be the same, just never dawned on me to express it that way. This is my first 4x4, so everything up till this that was RWD only gave me one differential to worry about. Ya know, since everyone always wants to know the gear ratio in their FWD cars!

:hijack:
3.05 drive ratio in my fwd DD. I checked right away. The LS is a bit lower than the standard Impala along with a bigger motor and few more ponies.
