I'm in the process of replacing the head on my trailblazer, I'm at the point where I need to line up the timing marks on the chain before installing the valve cover and intake manifold. Right now I have the number one piston at TDC and both cam gears lined up in the general area they need to be but my timing chain marks( black links) are way off, so today I tried to remove the front timing cover but it seems like something on the bottom is holding the cover to the motor I have just over a half inch gap between the timing cover and the block at this point but it refuses to come off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you get the three bolts that come up from the oil pan into the timing cover?
It may also be getting hung up on the oil pump. Are you on TDC for the right stroke?
