front axle play

I'm guessing the front passenger half shaft shouldn't have this much play where it goes into the splined disconnect assembly. :eek:

Uhh definitely not. You got one shot disconnect there. New outer seal an bearing, at least, but you'll probably need new thrust washers too. I would suspect the bearing surface of the cv shaft is pretty well shot.

Yeah, the axle's out. Most of the seal was still there and there were evidence fragments that a bearing did exist at one time. Shaft bearing surface isn't horrible, but its done. Time for a disconnect rebuild and a new axle. I know ORTB has some good additional info on the disconnect.

GM did us no favors by making that a sealed unit that "never needed regreasing". Offroaders have mostly started to rebuild/regrease them properly every time we change CV shafts, which for me is about every 25-30K.

Do the bearings and/or seals need replaced in that time or do you just typically regrease stuff?
