Does OnStar do anything anymore?

My 2002 Envoy has OnStar. Obviously I never use it. Never did....but...does it still keep telematics type information and transmit or store that info anywhere?

If so, is there any reason to keep it connected?

If not, how do I disconnect it without causing any problems with my Envoy? Thank you all for any input.

Systems made prior to 2015 relied on older 2G and 3G CDMA networks. These older networks were officially phased out by major wireless carriers, causing many of these factory-installed OnStar features to become obsolete.

And on some other brands (like Subaru), this can cause batteries to die because it is constantly searching for a network that no longer exists. There is no reason to keep it connected even though GM's system didn't suffer from battery drain issues, it's still a good preventive to just pull the plug on it.

The onstar fuse provides power to both the onstar and the build in door opener buttons. If you dont use them, feel free to disconnect.
