Owing to a recent 'minor dust-up' over the confusion of "Which Valve Trains Tools WILL Work..." and "Which Tool Set Will NOT Work" for the R&R of the Tiny, Hollow Push Rods on the GM 4.2L Engine Head Valve Train, some clarification seems in order.
The problem evolved when I was having some difficulty trying to convince the OP about some very important distinctions between the available K&M Specialty Tool Kits. In any case, I thought it worthwhile to take the time to provide "Iron-Clad Proof" of these differences and record them here for Distant Posterity about The GM LL8 Atlas Vortec 4200 Engine.
Below are some Still Images I took of these Tool Sets as they appear "On The Bench" and then showing them actually installed ON A GM 4.2L ALUMINUM ENGINE HEAD to emphasize WHY we should Favor One Tool Set over the Other for the Obvious Reasons Circled in RED and appearing in the following Photo-Play:
If all you want to do is perform an R&R of the Tiny, Hollow Lifters under each Overhead Cam Follower for each of the (24) Valves... This K&M J-44228-1 Tool Set Will NOT Work. Not Without Performing the Removal of the Overhead Camshafts and Followers, FIRST:
Again, If all you want to do is perform an R&R of the Tiny, Hollow Lifters under each Overhead Cam Follower for each of the (24) Valves... The K&M EN-47945 Tool Set WILL Work:
...and from @DigitalSamurai ... His YT Demonstration Video of the use of the K&M EN-47945 Tool Kit... *** IN ACTION:
*** Please Note... USE CAUTION when performing some of the actions shown in the above Video:
ONLY Rotate the GM 4.2L LL8 In-Line Six Cylinder Engine in a CLOCKWISE DIRECTION when viewed while standing in front of the SUV Engine Compartment.
Nuff' Said.
