I'm going to rehab my stock Bose head unit and add an auxillary jack. As I've seen with many of these radios, the buttons have been severely worn. What the heck is it with these buttons? Were they painted with lamp-black and whale oil? I've never seen them wear like this on any other head unit.
Example (not my head unit):
I've ordered a set of replacement buttons. In order to extend the life of them, I was considering spraying them with a satin clear coat prior to installation. Has anyone done this before? I'm concerned with compatibility of the coatings and would hate to see the buttons melt before my very eyes as I spray them.
Right now, I plan on spraying a few of the older buttons first to see if the clear coat has any effect. I'm open to suggestions, and will document the repair here.
Thanks!
