My Envoy (196k well maintained miles)is using about 2 quarts of Mobil One Extended every 5 thousand miles. I change oil religiously at 5 k miles.

I'm thinking it might be sticky ring related.

I tried the BG EPR in my Toyota Corolla/Geo Prism (315 k miles) It improved my oil consumption from one quart every 400 miles to one quart every 1100 miles.

Should I try the BG on the Envoy? Anything I might be missing on hurting anything? Or should I bite the bullet and do a top end soak with the AC Delco top engine cleaner?

Happy New Year 2024 to all.

Seeing as its so easy to access the cylinders by pulling plugs, doing a piston soak would be easy enough. If I had this issue with my diesel, I would avoid pulling injectors at all costs.

I think a direct soak with TEC would yield better and immediate results on the rings as opposed to an indirect treatment via an oil or fuel additive. BG could be used as a secondary long term treatment. I don't think that neither would hurt anything.
