My father asked me to install new rear shocks on his 2003 Silverado HD 2500. The ACDelco shocks are about $56 apiece. Does anyone know if there is a better option?

Bilstein 4600's are about $74 each. 5100's go for around $87 each. That's what I'd use.

Bilstein's are nice. My brother uses Fox shocks on his F350 and it rides like a dream.

I had the regular yellow Bilsteins on my EXT and found them bouncy. Wasn't any better when I transferred them to the LS shorty. Just bought a set of the Bilstein 5100 rears and will see how they fare. In fact, I might go put them in right now.

I just installed all four gabriel Max Control shocks on my truck (02 1500 rcsb). they seem to be good quality and noticed a difference immediately (as would be expected as my fronts were completely shot and my rears were tired). the price for all four was reasonable to me, the hardware seemed to be good quality and the shocks themselves appear to be robust. Installation went without a hitch. FWIW, they claim to have a lifetime warranty.

And an update on the Bilstein 5100 in the rear. Love 'em. Nice and firm but not harsh. I will eventually do the fronts but they're still good for now.
