Air Filter question

I am looking for the best air filter money can buy. I don't have any aftermarket CAI, my truck is completely stock. Curious as to what brands people prefer and the pros and cons of them?

Thanks in advance:thumbsup:

AAP has a good sale and I need rear pads and rotors so I'd thought I'd get an air filter at the same time to meet the $20 off $100 or more coupon code.

The best one you can prob get for your motors health is the factory AC filter.

Have heard alot of good things of the green filter but as infrequent as I change the air filter out, I personally go for the more restricted filters since it doesn't hurt MPG at all....only your butt-dyno feels different if you can even tell the difference anyway.

So to answer your question....AC then perhaps the green or Amsoil. Purolator makes a good one as well.....my current filter.

Here's a good read on air filters.

I have always like the TrueFlow filters, they are now out of business I believe, but occasionally they can still be found. I am debating between a TrueFlow and an AEM DryFlow

I stay with stock paper filters myself. K&N flows better because it filters less, no thanks. Not sure how the other similar types compare, but I'd rather just replace the filter every so often than deal with washing, drying, and oiling up some other thing.

I have gone back to paper filters after using a K&N on my pickup. After about 120,000 miles, I kept getting a MAF code and I was always extra careful not to over-oil it. After dealing with the SES lite on, I cleaned the MAF and put a paper filter back on and it hasn't come on in 20K miles. The TB doesn't have a MAF, but I'm sticking with paper filters going forward.

I am willing to do a bit of work instead of spending more money. Cleaning and oiling has saved me about the cost of my first lift kit...

I wont own a k/n filter period. Far too much dirt goes through.

I don't mind the work if it is worth it. I don't think it is worth it because I don't trust the "washable" filters.

I do and have pictures and experiences to prove mine works excellently. Not sure a paper filter would have survived or repelled the water and mud as mine has.

I ended up deciding on an AEM Dryflow. Although the Green is tempting, for my purposes the AEM was just a more realistic financial decision. Now I just need to find an extra airbox at the junkyard so I can work on a little project I've been wanting to try.

Got a link or part number to share for the one you went with?

The AEM arrived today, so its installed now. I like the feel of it, seems sturdy and very nicely built. On a side note is AEM owned by K&N? Just curious, cause the AEM dryflow is not cotton gauze, however along the seam there is a metal crimp strip to seal the seam, and I noticed that metal strip is embossed with tiny little K&N logos

Saw this on their website :coffee:
Replacement Dryflow Air Filters
Developed in collaboration with K&N, the inventor of high-flow air filters, we adopted some of the best elements of cotton air filters into a new generation Dryflow Air Filter...

They got you good.

JK

I have ran K&N with no issues on most of my vehicles. I also ran a Weapon R filter on my old Buick, foam filter saturated in oil, and had a nice velocity veloute built into it. Intake tube would be 40* cooler than the ambient air temp on a 90-100* day. Actually had condensation on it a few times.

This one is their new Dryflow, so no oil, and its some sort of synthetic filter rather than cotton gauze. Seems pretty well made, so it should work for a good long time
