A/C compressor cycles on and off

about 80-85 degrees here in pa today, used my ac for the first time in the trailblazer, my ac compressor cycles on and off, is this normal for these rigs or do i need to add some freon? it blew ice cold air and i have the auto climate if that makes a difference

Yep, normal. These systems are called "cycling clutch orifice tube" or CCOT. When the pressure in the system gets low enough (and cold enough), it turns off the compressor until it comes back up. Saves a bit on gas and reduces icing. Exception would be that it cycles in really short bursts which would indicate a low system. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have the pressures checked before the hot season arrives.
