2006 Trailblazer LT transfer case encoder motor install question

My 06 Trailblazer LT is stuck in 4HI. I've done all the troubleshooting suggestions elsewhere on this forum, and the encoder motor is my culprit. When I replace it, when installing the new one is it possible to plug in the harness, select 4HI, and have everything line up on the splines? Or do I need to play with the new one until it fits since I can't get the transfer case into 2HI before removing the old one?

I just changed mine a few weeks ago. Was simple, just unplugged the wire harness and removed the bolts. Fit the new one in there and the bolt holes lined up so I torqued the bolts and plugged in the harness. Started up the truck and put it in 4HI and problem solved.
