This was yesterday...after I seen @$ Khalid ! 9130 post the other day, it had me wanting to do some modern black-out of the Chevy Bowtie emblems on my TB...

So I ordered some Gloss Black Vinyl and got out the X-Acto Knife...

Wanted to see how it would look on my TB...I like . So now I will be ordering more Vinyl to black-out the Bowtie on the front Grill.

Actually happened last night, but was too tired to post...

But changed oil, put on the caliper covers, determined I have a driver's temp actuator that is bad (not feeling like messing with it yet), and made sure the alignment was all good. Alignment was damn near spot on, but looks like down the road it's going to need some new front shocks in the future. Can make it until next summer (I hope), and then I'll probably contact Tony NorcalSS and get a kit from him.

A nice picture of the calipers would be appreciated. I am still thinking about painting or caliper covers

I bought some caliper decals so when I get then put on I'll post a close up pic. Only reason I put caliper covers on was because they were given to me. Couldn't justify spending $200 on them though. I originally just used some Duplicolor red caliper paint and painted them.

Finally got around to installing the catch can I bought a few months ago. I wonder how much it'll collect. I modded the can a bit to hopefully be more effective as it has some filtration media in it now.

Them plugz. I had to take the metal pipe that I used for the fan clutch bolt to get the #6 out but after that the sucker went like nothing. Physics, baby.
Not sure how bad my plugs look in conparison with other members' plugs but I think they look quite bad - but maybe it's just the rust that makes them look bad. They supposedly have 91k miles on them.
Also, was GM already using 41-103s in their factories by 2006? Because the ones I took out already were 103s... maybe my truck's odo was tampered with and it actually has much more miles on it (normal here in Europe).
Truck is a bit quieter and smoother, also peppier I think.

Swapped some new high and low bulbs in and threw in a wiring harness for the high beams. 5k lows were fine but I prefer a warmer color and got a good deal on some 4500k bulbs, 5k driver side and new 4500k on pass. side to show the difference. Much mo betta.

Had some (cheap) 5k bulbs in the highs on 55w and they were actually a little blue and I couldn't stand it. Messaged the company about them being the wrong color and they sent me some 4300k bulbs to try and they're much better.

Stood and stared at the front end with a perplexed look on my wondering why the hell do I have a pop sound on the drivers side after double checking everything.

Replacing the thermostat and temp sensor today. Also, if I have time, taking a shim out of the ac clutch.

Checked the catch can, yup there is a tiny bit of oil caught in it. Checked oil level, only 700 miles on this change so far and the level on the stick hasn't budged which is good. I am thinking that the sudden oil usage I had last time was a fluke caused by the oil type change and/or start of AFM-related issues. 2 quarts in 3500 miles, but the next 3000 miles had a lot less used (maybe another 1/2 qt at most) and part way into that second half I tuned out the AFM. So far, looking good.

Well, that was a pain in the arse. I took the alternator out, which was the most hassle...the bottom bolt is a prick to get at but I have a stubby 15mm wrench, so it was ok in the end.

I did the air bleed and ran it for a while at 2000rpm. It got to 203° and didn't go any higher, but the real test will be on the road later today. Didn't do the sensor as I think it's fine and I don't have the right socket.

Now I have what I believe to be the water pump rattling. Didn't do it at all until I replaced the thermostat, very strange. I'm hoping it'll last long enough for the meet and I can get some help with it.

Further to above because I can't edit now.

Took it for a little spin this arvo and the max temp I got was 208° sitting at lights. Driving it was humming along at 203°.

So, at this stage, it was a successful transplant.

Determined I have spark knock, and apparently have had it on this truck since... well, pretty much since I got it. Truck pulls timing when it happens, and it happens a lot under moderate load, but it isn't severe either. Just need to diagnose the cause.

Out of curiosity...

Does anyone know what the minimum/maximum Coolant temperatures should be for the 4.2L engine (with A/C off) at Idle and while Driving 65-75mph with outside temperatures between 70-80 degrees?

Mine, before the thermostat stuck closed/partially closed, was always between 206.6° and 210.2° with occasional jump to 212.0°.

Thought I would throw it out there, mine did the same (I have changed everything in the front end) turns out the nuts on the sway bar end links had backed off just enough for the stud to shift in the sway bar. So I would start there, and if they are loose at all I would recommend getting another nut to double nut the stud.

And I drove mine to work, nothing else lol. Last tuesday I replaced the back brake pads (they were beyond shot) and did an oil change. I also pulled the plugs and they looked great (220K miles and no idea if they had been changed, but now I know they had been recently). Last thing on my list is to clean up the rust on the tailgate as I already did on the bottoms of the doors.

After I'm running closed loop, I'll usually idle right at 200, at speed, the temps will drop to 195-197. In stop and go traffic, I've seen mine creep up to 206. :twocents:

Ok, i was just curious cause I just did a Coolant Flush and replaced the T-Stat, CTS and Radiator Cap and wanted to be sure i got the Coolant mixture right or close.

I maybe a little strong on the Dex-cool side...

Above is after 5 min of 70-80mph...
Screenshot_20160604-124817.png
And above is at Idle for 5-10 min...

So it looks like I am very close on my Coolant Mix. I think I have a little more Dex-cool than Water but not enough to worry.

Thanks everyone!

Replaced the radiator and fan clutch last night. Having trouble getting the new fan clutch to thread onto the water pump again, so it was best to walk away from it last night. I'll get back to it after work tonight.

Those fine threads really are a bear to get lined up with the weight of the fan hanging off it.

Put gas in it, got 18.3MPG. New best!

1 week with the catch can and about 350 miles. I can't say how much if any oil is getting sucked past the can but it is at least doing something!
