What activates the interior light when you open a door?
All doors except the front passenger door, when opened, activate the interior lights.
on the older cars there use to be a button,
is it now tied to the door check?

Most likely the BCM activates the lighting upon receipt of a status report by the PDM (pass door module) that the front passenger door has been opened. There is a switch somewhere in the passenger door that is connected to the PDM.

:iagree: There's 2 wiring harnesses that plug into the door latch. I'm betting one of these reads the open/closed state of the latch, reports it to the PDM, and back to the BCM.

More than likely the switch inside the door latch is defective.

after the responses, I double checked the connection between the door and body, that seemed tight.
so this morning dove into taking the panel off.
as I’m doing this the, light starts working again.
I took the panel off anyway and checked all connection in door.
buttoned it back up again, light is working now.
must have been a loos connection somewhere.
thank you for the suggestions!

well, worked yesterday, but not this morning.
must be a bad switch as Mooseman suggested.
time to get the part, tear door apart again and get it fixed.
where might that switch be located inside the door?

It's part of the latch. If you follow the thread I quoted from my pic, you can see other pics from when I did my latch replacement write up.
