It’s all around us nowadays and it’s simply corporate greed. In consulting, the Apple model was such a wet dream- to control the platform- that corporations just went all in. Proprietary systems that we aren’t allowed to repair on our own or take to a shop of our choosing. That’s what we have now.

For a guy like me it’s just nonsense. Fixing what you have was how I was raised. When I explain to a younger person that I’m repairing a 50 year old ac, a 30 year old fridge, or my 20 year old car I always know what they’re thinking…I’d just buy a new one. Just makes me sad. Perhaps the affordability crisis could use some common sense approaches that no longer seem to be part of our common sense…
