Suggestions on Speakers and Radio

Last year my driver side speaker went out and came back once, then after it came back it's playing so soft ever since I can barely hear it play anything. So With that being the case, I'm just going to upgrade the speakers whether they are good or bad. Now I listen to Country, Country Rap and some Classic Rock music and I want a speaker with really good base speaker for the money. I know most of ya know your stuff when it comes to this stuff so the reason for my asking  If you want I can post some of the music I listen to if that will help.

I'm also thinking on a new radio, but I'm just not sure. Maybe if some of you shared some pros and cons of an aftermarket radio that might help with me decision.

Here are some Speakers I'm looking at:

Kenwood KFC-1665S Sport Series 6-1/2" 2-way speakers at Crutchfield.com

Kenwood KFC-G1620 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers — also fit 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com

Anyone one have other suggestions on speakers?

Looking myself and think I may go with components after some research.

Since its says you have an LTZ I would assume you have the Bose option correct? If that is the case, replacing just the speakers may not be the best idea, again IF you have Bose, your front speakers are a 7" or 8" Midbass.

Would El Cheapo budget brand components or a name brand 2/3 way be better for the doors?

Out of the two that Cable presented I would probably go with the G1620.

I am happy for you, the Bose system can be such a burden when it comes to replacing components.

That being the case I would consider the KFC-G160 for every reason except the KFC-1665S has a higher sensitivity.

I am sure for the $70 you could get better speakers though, if I have time later I may post some links for you.

I replaced all my Envoy's speakers with Kickers. Each pair was less than $60 and it was so worth it. Got the recommendation from here. 6.5 inch ones IIRC.

i would check out the Rockford Fosgate Prime series components or coaxial's... nice sounding speakers and on a great budget too... I just did my dads Colorado full sweep (6.5 components and 6.5 coax's) for around $130. I have the primes in my Grand prix as well and will be swapping over to prime for the beaSSt too...

Sorry to hijack but, if I ever change my speakers I would also need to change the Bose head unit and amp?

The thing about Bose is that they design their headunits, amps and speakers to sound good together (which is debatable). Typically when you switch anything up in the Bose system, the new component doesn't work well with the Bose equipment.

If you ask me, Bose is junk. When I was into car audio years ago, everyone called them Blows instead of Bose.

I see a lot of threads across several forums for different makes and models saying Bose systems integrated into a vehicle are meant to be a cohesive unit, and changing any part has generally an adverse effect on the quality. But I figure it's not as good as the hypers say, and not as bad as the booers say. I mean, a 21-speaker Bose system made it into a Maybach car, and when you're paying that price for luxury you can bet your trousers if it's not up to snuff some snobby people with a lot of money and time on their hands would have rang them up about it. Yes, I know Maybach is defunct now. They've also shown up in Maserati, Porsche and Ferrari. That tells me it wasn't a fluke purchase - after all, the cost of the system is ultimately passed on to the buyer anyway, so what does the factory care how much it costs?

Generally a full-on swap-out (Bosectomy according to a local thread) is required, and you may as well do all-new everything since the end result will likely be a system which has what YOU want instead of what a designer in a factory decided you wanted. You could have it loud. You could have tons of bass. You could have superior audio fidelity. You can blend the three. As a bonus, with a Bose unit factory-installed there's already wiring running from the head unit area to the back, and then back to the speaker ports, which saves you a good chunk of time fishing wire through nooks and crannies

I myself like my Bose system. I spent a long time tweaking the bass and treble to find the sweet spot. As far as I know I don't have LUX (2005 model year), and maybe it's just because the last two vehicles I had had little 10-watt stock radios feeding two crappy stock paper cones, and while it may not be super-top-notch, I-can-hear-the-tuba-player-farting quality, it meets or exceeds my needs in most areas. That and I don't want to go ripping into something that already works for now, and on a vehicle I'm still two years out on for loan payoff :rotfl:

I have a set of Polk 2 ways in the rear which I would recommend to anyone. In the front I have a cheap set of Precision Power components. When I say cheap they were $30 shipped. They sound way better than the factory ones, but not as good as the RE boob cone comps I had. My only complaint, the rings that hold the tweeters are a terrible design. May have worked better if I used a smaller hole saw, but they work. I would spend the extra money for a better set, but for now they do the job and the price was right on target.

I plan to keep them on the HU as I have no plans to run and amp or subs, and it does the job.

Components definitely in the front, and 2 ways in the rear. As for speaker brands, I usually stick with the Polk, MB Quart (higher end models), CDT (you can get some nice b class stuff on ebay), Focal and for my friends with high budgets any of the high end brands like Rainbow, or Dynaudio.

Ok...first reply to this site.... I've always been on Trailvoy....have I turned to the darkside???:undecided:
Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that I have to do a full "bosectomy" on my rig. I installed an aftermarket radio a couple years ago with the gmos-04 but its always sounded ....well not good. The bose setup seemed ok but using the an aftermarket HU with the non-lux amp just hasn't worked. With that being said, does anyone know the impedences of the bose speakers. I'm also looking for some replacement speakers so thanks to all who have given a few different ones to look at. I'll also post anything that seems worthy.

Congrats on the switch! I believe they're 2 ohms. Are you trying to find replacements that are the same impedance? Aftermarket speakers pretty much only come in 4 ohms.

Ya....probably replace them all. From what i've read, the bose speakers will eventually burn up the HU since the impedence is low. Something decently priced that sound good.

I thought Bose was 6 ohm.

Welcome to the light. Trailvoy was destroyed by VS evil.

Fronts are 3.2895 ohms and, rears are 9.2870 ohms. Just kidding.

I don't know for sure, I've seen other Bose systems that were 2 ohms. Probably depends on the model of car.

Someone posted around here on that. Look up a thread with the word "Bosectomy" in the title, I think the full title is giving my mom's truck a partial Bosectomy or something like that. Or, here is the link: http://gmtnation.com/f35/im-giving-moms-trailblazer-partial-bosectomy-9808/

Front door is 1 ohm.
Rear door is 2 ohm.
Front dash panel is 4 ohm.

Bose used goofy low impedances a lot. In some cars in the 90's they even had 0.5 ohm speakers.
