Will the torque app read codes thrown by the 4x4 system or just the engine related ones? I have the paid version.

Yes. According to Torque's website:

Torque can be used to view any stored fault codes on your vehicles ECU

Torque OBD 2 engine diagnostics — Torque

Note that Torque cannot read ABS codes, B codes stored in the BCM nor C chassis codes unless they are stored in the PCM/ECU.
