Sensor for alarm? (actually an interior temp sensor)

Hi everyone,

So I have this thing on the left side between driver and aft left passenger.

What is it? Sensor for the factory alarm? I'm asking because it's making a buzzing sound now and then. Especially when the car is cold inside. Should it do that?

HVAC temperature sensor. There is a little motor encased behind that pillar to draw air in. It could be failing.

Oh I see! Thats most likely the case then. Guess I'll start with removing it and have a look. Thanks.

That is known as the Aspirator and that buzzing is a common problem. Replacing it will take care of the noise.

Actually, it probably has dust around the fan (and the thermistor), clean it and a tiny (very tiny) drop of light oil will free it.

If that is the "clean" pic, it was dirty. Try a little compressed air, if you don't have access to a compressor, you can buy hand held cans, of compressed air, in computer stores. Canadian Staples, US Office Depot, sell them for between $5 and $10.

Oh that's the "before" photo. Guess I should have taken one after my clean up as well.
