Question about running new speaker wire to the doors.

My audio install in the Bravada has been a couple year effort, been afraid to tear apart the interior in fear of more retaining clips breaking, but I finally started to wire in my 4 channel Hifonics, I have gotten the rear doors wired up from the amp to the inside of the door, (drilled into the molex connector). What is the best way to get through the plug for the front doors? I have searched here, google and the Old Site over the last few days, I found a write up on the old site, I did the rear like he suggested, but I am still unsure if I want to route wires outside of that connector like he did, looked like he ran it out of the rubber boot from the body, exited where the rubber boot meets the connector, wraped the wire in electrical tape, and ran it through the rubber boot into the door. If any way possible I would like to avoid doing this. Thank you in advance for any help, info or advice.

Edit: Nevermind, my method is the way you're trying to avoid :duh:

lol did you use electrical tape or what? If that is my only option ill do it, looking at it again im not sure if my wire will even fit in the rubber boots alongside the factory wiring.

The only way (that I know of) to get around that would be to cut the factory leads before and after the plug, and splice in the upgraded wire on each side. If you're running larger wire though, this would kind of defeat the purpose. I considered depinning the OEM speaker leads from the connector, but there just wasn't enough room for the upgraded wire.

I went around the connector (I think I followed the same thread you did) and 5 or so years later it's still holding up.

I had to run 5 wires (16 or 18 awg) through my driver's side and 3 through the passenger side, I didn't tape them as it was a really tight fit. I suppose I could/should have taped the exposed wires afterwards, but it's only a couple of inches between the rubber boots, and my doors are always closed anyway...

Edit: Mine looks just like Andrew's, except I went into the factory opening for the door side boot.

Ill just run it like you guys did, I also considered tearing the connector apart and replacing the metal terminial but if the wire wont fit into the connector that wont work. Thank you for the info/advice.
Glad there are some people here that actually have upgraded the speaker wires, on the Miata forums it seems like nobody knows anything about audio...

No problem man! And thank you for doing your research on it first, it was a big help to us that you were up to speed on what was involved.

So whatchu running for door speakers?

If only upgrading the wires on my pickup would be so easy. It doesn't have carpet, so it's going to be a real treat to wire up.

Currently I have a set of Polk Db in the front doors, but I am looking at a set of Morel Maximo components for the front, and I am still undecided as to what mid-bass I am going to run in the back doors.

Not a problem searching, I would much rather search than bother people over something that is easy to find.
