Hi All,
My power steering pump appears to have a leak around the front seal around the shaft. What is your take on just replacing the seal vs replacing the whole unit? The pump is still good and not making any noise. Just did not know if it would be a waste of time to just replace the seal.

Pump is around $75 for a reman... seal is around $16.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

You can try a quality PS stop leak, like Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak. Drain your PS reservoir and refill with Lucas. Might be worth at shot for ten bucks or so. Depends on how bad it's leaking. Don't expect miracles...

When I filled it up last, I used some Preston PS fluid with stop leak. And so far, I dont see any new leaks in the garage. Im hoping I can just nurse it till it gets a little warmer to really dig into it and fix it right. Just trying to figure out what might be best from a $$$ perspective.

For what it's worth, I think the Lucas product is superior... I've experimented with both in another vehicle.
Good Luck !
