k, got my new 02 trailblazer all fixed up and ready to go and turned it over to the old lady with all the bugs worked out. she drove it two days and came home and told me it was missing and smelled like gas. I cant find any gas leak, took it for a ride this morning and had my buddy, a Chrysler guy, put it on his computer. it gave us a code, po440. anyone have any ideas for me?

The light came back on this week, giving me p0440 again, put new fuel filter on this afternoon and noticed the filler neck is loose where it meets the fuel tank, is this common with these 02 trailblazers? I can see some blue silicone around it where someone mistake tried and patched it
GM doesn't use screw clamps. So what you have is a botched repair job. Probably need a new tank now. I would investigate the crack at the tank and see if it can be welded. But I think we have composite tanks so probably no.

Mine was just like that. Inlet into tank was broken. It was covered under a special extended warranty but is now expired. It affected most first year EXT/XL's. Depending on your mileage, you could try pleading your case at a dealer or GM directly to get it covered. Either way, you will need a tank.
No kidding, I was tempted to keep it for myself and let her walk, we live 20 miles from where she works tho
i had the same code for the last 12 months, but in my case it was weird...
first i replaced the gas cap, problem solved! nahhhh i got the same code 3 months later, then i got away for another 6 months, 3 weeks ago i got it back, but i just bough the selenoid and the valve, just in case....
anyways, yesterday i did the smog check, and i passed with honors....lol, i guess now is the time to replace the valve and selenoid....

I found a product at Autozone (I think) that was called "SuperGlue for plastic" I cleaned up around the connection to the tank, let it dry and repaired it while off of the vehicle.
This lasted over a year and the gas smell came back, This time I use a standard gelled superglue while the tank was still on the vehicle and 6 months later still ok.
Not sure if you want to try this repair method, but cheaper than a tank. I'd stay away from used ones that probably have the same defect.

Most of the defective ones should be out of circulation by now and you can check the manufacturing date on the tank to weed out the few that are left. You can also inspect it prior to buying it knowing where to look. Anything from an '05 up will not have this defect.

If i remember correctly, I want to say the repair was $1000 for the dealer to do it. But as i think about now, that seems high. Maybe someone can chime in that had to pay for it. Good luck!

That's about right. Mine would have been $1200 out of warranty but that's dealer price. Any other garage would have likely been half that. Thank goodness I saw the warranty notice on the OS at the time.

As I said in my post before, a used one should be fine as long as you know what to look for the defect. If you want to go new, should be able to get it from a local parts shop or a rad and tank shop. RockAuto doesn't have them. Dealer should be the last place to go if you don't want to get raped.
As for that video, I dunno. It would have to be a perfectly smooth surface where the neck broke off to seal properly. And the original also has a rollover valve to prevent fuel from spilling in case of a rollover (and also prevents getting siphoned).

I would stick with an OEM unit. Either new or used.
Not sure of exact size, it's an 02 trailblazer extended, did gm offer different sizes on the 02 extended?
I don't know how accurate cars.com is but it says 25.5 gal. I keep forgetting I can look things like that up online.

Another option would be to call a gas tank repair shop and see if they repair ABS filler necks. From what I have read on the internet there is such a thing as ABS welding.
mine is throwing the code and ive changed a few fuel sensors (the canister in the engine bay, the cartridge looking one on top of the shaft and the sensor that goes in back of the fuel tank). we did a evap smoke test and its not leaking from anywhere. i dont know where the hell to go with this anymore. could one of the sensors or solenoids that i changed be bad?
