My truck doesn't have a resonator??

I had my truck on a lift today to check a few things and I've been considering doing the "replace the muffler with a pipe" mod and I discovered I don't have a resonator!

Original stock muffler/tailpipe section, parts tag says 15175774.

It's pretty flattened over the rear, I don't like it.

That's odd. You have the 6.0 aero though, don't you? Not sure that resonators came on the 6.0's.

NOPE. 2003 Ascender 5.3. From a GM catalog for that part number, shows it for '03 & '04:

That is odd unless because I have an 05 envoy with the 5.3 and it has a resonator. I wonder if maybe the other models had a different setup

It looks like 2002 through 2004 V8 trucks had this muffler/tail pipe without the resonator while the I6 trucks had a separate muffler and tail pipe with a resonator.

Seems odd to me but it killed my idea of replacing my muffler with a pipe and having just the resonator.

You could always get a the OE resonator and go forth with your original plan
