I have seen the commercial for the Audi with the LED headlights and wished "boy those would be cool to have" and just recently, I have seen them out on the market. I have seen 2 different versions for sale. One was a simple plug and play while the other had some minor wiring to do. Both seemed like it yielded the same result. After having numerous issues with my HID kits I was thinking about trying one of these products out. Does anyone have a set of these in their Trailblazer?

I love the HID look and was hoping the LED's would match or surpass them. I'm partial to the 4500k bulbs and I see you can buy the 4500's in the LED's. What is everyones opinion on this new product? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

I've seen the offroad LED light bars, one member on here posted pics of his mounted to his roof rack. Can you post links/pics to the specific ones you're talking about? That would help with the discussion.

He might be talking about the devil eyed headlights for the trailblazer. I think it was Harmless that had some pics of them installed:undecided:

He's talking about the Jewel LED headlight technology that's new to some Audi and Acura vehicles.

Those Acura LED headlights are annoying to drive in front of. I think its worse then HIDs in projectors. While i love how the cars look and the light output the glare is way too much at night.,

There are decent replacements in leds, but I'm ditching the traditional high beams for bixenon projectors.

That's what I'll be putting in my lows.

Those things use the same Cree CXA series LEDs I was planning on using except that everything is included with those: dc to dc converter, heatsinks, mounting hardware, and cables.

Update (10:35) They're mine!

Kevin, since nobody here has anything like that yet, why don't you buy that pair to try them out and report back to us. I'll try the VLEDs product. 1200 lumens should be plenty.

Great idea! Sometimes some one has to be the first to try it or people would never know.

Someone's gotta take a chance:tongue: They do look good. I wanna see long term performance. They are a lot more costly than new hid lamps.
I remember a thread on th SS site a while back about some other alternative. As bright as hid lights but with no ballasts, and they weren't led. Can't remember for the life of me.

Anyone know the lumen output of those bulbs? I did not see any info referenced on their site.

This is what i was referring to. A basic plug and play headlight bulb. No ballast like the HID's.

At 1200 lumens, those are only about 200 more lumens than a standard halogen bulb.

viaTBSSOWNERS no one has pulled the trigger yet from what I know. Also the issue is they are on pre-order basis

These are getting better at 1800 lumen, but your standard 4300K HID bulb produces 3200 lumens.

This would be the optimal setup as they are using multiple LEDs for the headlights.

LED technology is not there yet to compete with a HID in a projector if trying to use a single LED only. On the other hand, the lifespan of an LED will outlast any HID or halogen bulb.

If I were to upgrade my headlights I would want to do it via HIDs in projectors or some equivalent. I'd be too worried about blinding other drivers by putting a super bright bulb in the stock reflector housings. Now if you could put an LED bulb inside the projector and get basically the same effect as an HID, that would be cool because LEDs have an extremely fast response time and also would probably last a lot longer before needing replacement.

Most people do not take into consideration that putting a HID bulb in a stock housing produces a lot of glare for oncoming traffic at night. Aiming your headlights down only helps so much, but in the end it defeats the purpose of upgrading. The difference between halogen and HID bulbs is literally night and day. The headlights on the TBs are not the greatest.

I used to be that guy with HIDs in a stock housing before I understood what a proper projector retrofit was and the benefits of it. After driving with projectors, there is no way I could go back.

Basically lifespan (On the high end *estimated*) you are looking at 1000 hrs for halogens, 3000 hrs for HIDs (Quality kits), and depending on the LEDs, up to 50,000 hrs. I have yet to see a LED bulb produce more lumen than a HID. Any bulb in a projector will be more effective than in a standard reflective housing.

Oh interesting I didn't know that.

Also, I've heard the 50,000 hours number for household LED bulbs that have comparable lumens to the incandescent bulbs that they are replacing, but I think to have an LED solution that was putting out enough lumens it would have to probably use some type of LED unit with lower lifespan than that, or else use a whole heck of a lot of small LEDs. I can't remember if I saw this here or somewhere else:

Yeah I just put some in my headlights and the light is a much whiter and significantly brighter light. Pretty cheap and its plug and play

:iagree: I have tried many different halogen bulbs in my TB, but none of them could compare to the Sylvania Silver Star Ultras. I thought they were bright until I installed an HID kit. There is no way I would ever go back to halogens. My wife even wanted me to install them on her F-150 after she drove my TB, which I did. Big difference.
