iPod Scan tool cord/app

Anyone know anything about using an iPod as a scan tool? It looks like a good idea, but so far the cables look awfully expensive, more then a simple scan tool would cost.
 
I don't know anything about the iphone version, but I have Torque pro on my Bionic and the bluetooth obd2. Works great and is extremely useful. I paid about $30 for both.
 
The iPod versions are outrageous, with an Android OS you can get everything you need for about $25 app included. Kinda sucks for apple guys
 
i was looking into this for the iphone/ipad. The app is free but the dang cable is $100. I thought some jap company would make a cheap one but i guess not.
