Because I own two of these and I mod them somewhat, every once in a while I race them against each other just to see what happens.
Some of you may remember ROUND 1 from last November. But if not, I'll repost it quickly.
Since that post, I've done a thing or two to my Envoy.
I was curious to see what if anything those mods would have done for me.
So Tonight I gathered up the family again and went out for ROUND 2!
Here are the vehicle specifics.
Each of the vehicles is the extended length so weight should be close to each other. Engine weight being different of coarse.
The Trailblazer has the I6 4.2 with a PCM4L tune with 100% TM reduction and a CAI.
The Envoy has the V8 5.3 with a PCM4L tune with 100% TM reduction, a CAI and a PCM4L Efan kit installed.
Both are 4x4.
Both have a final gear ratio of GU6 3.42 and both have the G80.
In my mind the 5.3l should win hands over...
3...2...1...GO! GO! GO!!!!!!
To my delight the V8 smoked the I6 the entire time. Every race, Each Direction, Drivers Swapped.
The Envoy not just won, but beat the I6 by many car lengths.
I was very very pleased about that.
This is how I imagined the 5.3l should be.
I think Round 3 won't occur until both trucks have thier exhaust installed.
I've been youtubing for exhaust sounds for the 4.2 and the 5.3.
Exhaust noise is such a personal choice, BUT
I think I've settled on Borla Cat Back for her 4.2 and
Stainless Works True Dual LongTube Headers with cats and the Stainless Works True Dual X-pipe cat back for my 5.3.
I have to wait another month or two for the money tree to grow back though.
I can't wait! :wootwoot:

So I dragged out my wife and kids last night, gave each of the kids a FRS radio and arranged a little informal race from 0 to 100(kph)(wanted to keep it legal and not set a bad example to my 12yr old boy who wants to start racing his gokart, sled, quad, dunebuggy...everything he owns....)

The Envoy has an all stock 5.3l.

To my surprise the I6 kept up with the v8 the entire time.
The Envoy won, but just barely.
I was surprised about that.
If anyone with a 4.2 is wondering about getting a tune or CAI, then wonder no more. It will keep up with a stock 5.3l.
I wonder if it's the 0% TM that makes the difference, IDK.
I've already ordered a PCM4L tune+Autocal and a K&N CAI for the Envoy.
I will rerun the informal race after those get installed.
I'm fully expecting a different result next time....
