Idling Rough

I have a 04 4x4 4.2
It has been consuming oil and engine light flashing had it scanned showed #2 misfire ,switch the coil to with another one and changed the plug it was fouled out with oil so I did a compression check and it is bad 50#.So how can I determine if it is a valve or ring problem

Welcome! That's the exact job that a leakdown test is meant for. (Google for it) Run the test and listen for escaping air. Then run it again after adding a small amount of oil to the cylinder to seal the rings and see if the behavior changes.
