Hot Key

I recently started noticing that when I shut the truck off and pull the keys, the ignition key is fairly warm.
I had the truck a few years and didn't notice it before. Was I unobservant, or is something going out?
I never had the steering column apart - I tried looking for a pic of what is in there that could possibly cause that but coudn't find one with enough detail.

The key release solenoid gets very hot in mine. Could be the problem. I circled it in yellow.
